Zombies

Chapter 2

I close the door behind me and it locks shut. As I walk in further I spot a shadow in the corner. "Hello?" I call out "Hello" someone calls back, "just so you know I've been trained in martial arts" yeah I convinced my dad to let me do a course. "Good to know. I'm sorry this just isn't how I expected my first day at a new school to go", "you weren't expecting to be trapped in a zombie safe room? Funny, me neither" I say to the shadow. "Oh no that I expected, happens to me all the time, it's kinda my thing. So you're not gonna do any of those sick martial arts moves on me are you?" they say, "nope, you're safe.. For now" I reply "good, because today is a big day, I'm trying out for the football team", "really? Well I hope you make it, I'll be cheering you on from the crowd", "my dad doesn't think I'll make the team" they say, still in the dark.

"I'm Zed, what's your name?" he asks "I'm Harper, nice to meet you" suddenly the lights turn on and I'm face to face with a zombie, before I know it, I've punched Zed in the face screaming. "Oh my god, Zed I'm so sorry I didn't mean to do that. Reflexes?" "It's okay" he groans in pain, "my parents have always taught us that zombies are disgusting dead-eyed freaks but.. you're not hideous at all", "thanks? I'll take it," he says as we make eye contact and smile at each other. I break eye contact with him and start talking again "my parents have always hated zombies since one of them bit my grandpa's ear off.." "But now we'll only talk your ear off," he jokes and I laugh.

"There you are!" Bucky says as he walks into the room with his cheerleaders following him, he grabs my arm and pulls me away from Zed. "If you ever touch my cousin again it won't be pretty, which as you can see, is off-brand for me" he then proceeds to spray disinfectant on his hands and rub it in to get rid of the 'zombie germs' I guess? "Bucky it's fine, Zed's cool," I say trying to wriggle out of his hand, "you're so weird, but your my cousin, and he's a zombie, are you crazy? Addison's looking for you anyway so ditch the freak and come with us. To cheer tryouts!" Bucky replies, dragging me away.
