Chapter 10

A couple of weeks after the homecoming game, Zed and his friends finally got released from zombie containment. As soon as I heard I ran straight to the border but they wouldn't let me pass, and so I walked back home. At school I heard that they were sending the zombies back to zombie-only school and was so annoyed at everyone, I hadn't even got to see Zed that day. I was at the cheer championship with my sister, she got kicked off the team for not being anti-zombie, but she still kept her wig on, she just wasn't ready to show that part of her and it's understandable, I had also been avoiding my parents so we didn't sit with them.

As Bree and Addison were talking to each other about cheer, I heard a familiar voice, too familiar. I walked over to the rail and looked over. Zed. "I'll be back soon," I say to my sister and I quickly walk down to where I saw him. "-that zombies are monsters" I hear him say to Eliza and I walk up. "They think that anyway, at least you have the courage to stand up for yourself, I say do it." I pause and look over at Zed catching his eye before giving him the biggest hug, "also hi, I really missed you" "I missed you too Harp" he says softly. "Okay, Harper your not gonna change my mind- wait you agree with me? I like this girl" Eliza says "sabotage isn't the zombie way, it's not who we are. I'm not a monster, I'm a zombie. We're not gonna change the world through sabotage" looking at Zed I smile softly and intertwine my hand with his, "ok so no sabotage?" Eliza asked us "no sabotage". "Seabrooks up next" we hear my sister say from the hall and we all head over to the stands to watch.

Not long after they started, the Seabrook cheer team was doing horrible. The audience was booing and the cheerleaders were falling all over the place. The music suddenly stopped and a little girl made her way to the stage. "Oh my god, is that your sister?" I ask Zed, and Zoey starts cheering. "What is she doing?" Bree asks, "She's changing this, with cheer," my sister says. "You can't just change things with one person and a pair of pom poms," Eliza says confused "your right, it's gonna take all of us," my sister tells her "like they'll ever see us as normal", "we're not normal".

"Bucky things can change," I told him as we all made our way over to the cheer team. "Things are changing whether you like it or not, you can either fight us and lose or join us," Eliza tells him and I look at him hopefully "I can't" and with that, he gave Addison the captain's whistle, and walked away. "Alright here's the plan," Zed says as we all huddle in a group.

Safe to say that his plan totally worked. I didn't completely know what I was doing but from spending my whole life at Addison's cheer practices, I did pretty good. The audience cheered so loudly and Zed spun me around in the air. "Who knew that a zombie and a human could change the world?" he says and we smile at each other.

Now that zombies and humans were on good terms they had lifted most of the rules regarding the zombies, so I went to the local pet shop and brought Zoey, a real dog. "Hey, Zed" "Harper! You have a dog?" "I brought it for Zoey", I say smiling "really? She's going to love it," he says, hugging me. We headed over to his house to find Zoey and she was so happy when she got the dog, she named him 'Puppy'.

Zed then held his hand out to me and we went for a walk to talk. "Harper, are we, I don't know, together?" he asks nervously, "is that your way of asking me out?" "Yeah, I guess it is, will you be my girlfriend?" "What do you think?" I say but before he can answer, I pull him down by the collar and connect my lips with his.
