Zombies

Chapter 4

Someone had thrown up in the cafeteria and it was disgusting, although Addison and I used this to get down to the basement because that's where the janitor stayed. "Hey, there's no human students in the basement," he says and we tell him about the situation upstairs. I make eye contact with Zed and send him a little wave. "Hey, Harper what are you doing down here?" he asks smiling as he comes to stand in front of me "I believe you met my sister Addison last night, she has something to say to you," I tell him and gesture to Addison to take it away.

"My- our cousin, he's a jerk about zombies and last night was cheer initiation. Not that that's a good excuse, I'm so sorry" she says and he softly thanks her. I then give Addison 'a look' and she turns to wait outside. "It's true, Bucky is so annoying about zombies, I mean you saw him the other day. I, on the other hand, think you're cool and I don't want my family's actions to define mine" I say looking down while trying to lighten the mood and become friends with Zed. "It's okay, you're cool too. Well what if Bucky sees us talking?" he asks in a joking but serious tone. "We'll make sure he doesn't" I state and look up smiling, and he smiles back.

"My sister made the cheer team so I'll be going to the pep rally this afternoon. Will I see you there? Your friends can come too, of course, I didn't mean to just only ask you, sorry I'm rambling.." I ask hopeful and embarrassed, I have no idea what's going on with me right now "zombies don't do pep rallies" Zed's zombie friend says from behind him "oh, right okay, well I better be going" "we'll think about it" Zed quickly says, I give him a small 'okay' and leave the room.

I didn't really think they would show up, I mean zombies at the pep rally would have been crazy but a girl can only hope. I told Addison I invited them and she thought it wasn't the best idea but we're twins, so she was on my side.

I was standing in one of the back rows when I saw the zombies walk inside. I caught Zed's eye and waved him over to where I was sitting. "I didn't think you'd come," I say once he's with me. "You glad I did?" he asks "obviously, otherwise I wouldn't have asked you," I say as I nudge him, "introduce me to your friends?" I ask him " yeah of course, sorry that totally slipped my mind. This is Eliza, she's a tech genius, and this is Bonzo, he's into music," he says gesturing to his two friends. "It's so cool to meet you guys, I'm Harper," I say, smiling at them. They gave me a small 'hi' but it seemed like Eliza was a bit skeptical of me, makes sense I mean humans and zombies have never really mixed so it's a bit weird but I really hope they warm up to me.

Everyone started cheering indicating that the rally had started. Addison was doing amazing and so naturally I cheered for her, the routine wasn't that bad, I mean they were really good, but then Bucky brought out firecrackers.. Bonzo got scared and Zed tried calming him down but it didn't work. He fell to the chair next to me and I bent down to see if he was alright but he zombied out and I stepped back.

All of a sudden Addison was thrown in the air but the people that were supposed to catch her ran away. I called out her name and looked over to where Zed was standing, he quickly caught my eye and ran to catch her. I quickly followed and as soon as he put Addison down I gave him a hug thanking him. I let go once Coach called for him and then focused all my attention on my sister.
