Stale iron taste in Luke's mouth was the first thing he felt. Scrunching up his nose in disgust he lifted his face from the ground.
"Done having a temper tantrum?" Someone said behind him. Luke shot up to his feet and spun around.
"You... How are you not dead?" He asked with wide eyes, staring at the very much alive Peter Hale.
"Thank that Martin girl for that."
"Lydia? Why would she help you?"
"I can be very persuasive." Grinned Peter and Luke scoffed.
"What do you want?" The hybrid said coldly. Peter raised his eyebrow with interest.
"Tell me, what do you remember?" He was met with a distrustful look. "C'mon, for once I swear, I don't want to kill you." Luke heard no flutter in his heartbeat, so he took a second to think. It was all just flashes. There was blood and clawing at his skin. He quickly checked over himself, finding a lot of bleeding scratches. They were taking longer to heal, he noticed, and found few puncture wounds on his arm that looked suspiciously like fang bites.
"Did we fight?" He asked and looked at Peter. The werewolf shook his head.
"No, but you fought yourself."
"What?"
"Clawing at yourself, whimpering, biting, all that shit. And surprisingly even drinking your own blood. Nobody really thought you how to handle the werewolf part of you, did they? It's a miracle you haven't killed anybody."
"Should have killed you." Said Luke with an annoyed expression.
"Heard that."
"You were meant to."
"Rude."
"Get over it."
"Jeez, what crawled up your ass this morning? Sure hope it wasn't my nephew." Chuckled Peter and Luke almost lunged at him.
"Do you wanna die today?"
"You wouldn't."
"Don't underestimate my-" Both of them stopped their bickering when they heard a twig snap. They stared through the thick darkness of the forest and soon saw five heavily equipped men approaching them.
"Looks like we're on a right tracs boys." Said one of the men with a heavy southern accent. "Say, you two wouldn't have happened to stumble across a vampire, did you?" Luke and Peter both noticed the amount of runed up wooden stakes in the holsters on their legs. Vampire hunters. "We received an anonymous tip that a stray vamp was running around Beacon Hills. Rumour is they're one of the few bats that were changed by the child of Dracula, making them very valuable."
"Yea, I saw one." Said Luke before Peter could speak. Luke knew most vampire hunters usually left werewolves alone, so that was the safest part for him to play.
"Really?"
"He attacked me. Would have killed me if my pack mate didn't show up." Luke prayed Peter would have enough self-preservation instincts to roll with it.
"Yes, and who told you not to go out alone, idiot." Peter playfully said and lightly slapped the back of his head as if scolding a teenager.
"Hmm, did you see where he ran off to?"
"Not really, he was fast, but he bolted once there were two of us."
"I see... let me just-oops!" Something spilled in Peter's jeans and the werewolf cursed.
"Dude, what the fuck?!" Peter growled and Luke smelled the holy water in the air.
"Sorry 'bout that." Said the hunter cheekily. "Do you mind holding this for me?" He extended his arm towards Luke. Thy hybrid hesitantly reached out and the hunter dropped a crucifix into his opened palm. It laid there, heavy and hot. After a moment, Luke tossed it back.
"We're no children of Lilith."
"Alright then. Thanks for the help." Said the hunter, evil spark in his eyes.
"Hmm." Hummed Luke and he and Peter turned to walk back to the town. Once they were out of the earshot Peter spoke.
"How did it not harm you?" Luke raised his arm up and opened his palm. There, burned into his skin, was an outline of a cross.
"It did."
