"I don't know what Ed meant" thought Cinna. He was gazing at the loot from the most recent raid he and the crew undertook. "It's nice when they give up with little or no fight."
The crew, however, were growing tired of the unnaturalness of it. At first the easy successes suited them. Eventually they realized those successes were a little too easy. They didn't trust their skills and fearsomeness so much as the fact that they were the crew of the dreaded Hell's Ferry. The cursed ship that had been re-born and set loose to do the bidding of maybe The Devil himself.
"Yes. The Devil himself" said Olu, watching Cinna trip over the golden trinkets laid out before him on the deck, with an "oof".
He and the others had been discussing their predicament. They were finally a feared and respected pirate ship crew, but somewhere along the way they had acquired standards. And it just didn't feel right. It didn't feel like they'd earned their reputation.
That, and they still felt the absence of their former crew mates. Pete thought about Lucius every single day. Olu often woke at the slightest noise, hoping it was Jim. Hoping they'd found their way back to him.
Cinna's ways were pirate captain-y. Enough. But there was no denying that the crew longed for Edward's leadership. Or at least co-leadership. Their visions of facing him again were half relief and near bliss at having him guide them, and half irrational belief that they would force him to answer for stranding them and tearing them away from their partners.Maybe the trip to Port Royal would yield a scuffle or two. Anything to make them feel like they were real fighters. And not just wannabes relying on un-earned notoriety.
The decision to sail to the port was reached after Cinna listened to his men's complaints
about wanting to set foot on dry land for a bit. They groused about wanting to see other faces, other pirates they could swap stories with. They hoped above all else to get news of where their companions were.
