Us Against The World

Part 6

Around 11am Chrissy and Sam pulled up to the mall. Despite it not even being noon it was already packed. They managed to find a spot for Sam to park near the back of the lot. They jumped out and made their way inside.

"I'm so glad they got this place fixed up after the fire. I'm honestly not sure what'd I'd do without it" Sam said as they walked through the lot. Chrissy nodded in agreement "that's for sure"

When they got into the mall they went straight to the nearest clothes store. They looked through an assortment of tops, pants, shorts, shoes. After a few minutes they both had a few items each and went to try them on. Chrissy went into her booth and took off her clothes and tried on a few different outfits. One of them was a matching black bra and underwear set. She couldn't help but wonder if Eddie would like it.

She shook her head and changed back into her normal clothes and walked out of the room. "He's just a friend. I love Jason.." she told herself.

Sam walked out of the changing room and took few articles of clothing with her. "I think I'm gonna get these, are you getting anything?" Chrissy nodded and showed Sam the underwear."Oh those are cute. Let's go pay and get something to eat" Chrissy nodded again. She knew that Sam wouldn't let her go without food. She knew all about Chrissy's eating disorders.

After they paid they walked together down to the food court. The girls decided to get some pretzel bites, and sat down at a vacant table. They talked about cheer and then school and Sam always loved to talk about her crushes. Currently it was on the O so famous Steve Harrington. She just knew the question was gonna pop up again, and then it did, "Wanna visit scoops ahoy?" Sam asked, trying to hide her obvious intentions.

Chrissy laughed to herself. "Sam, if you want to see Steve, you can just say that, of course we can go. I can go to the music store while you're talking to him." Sam uncharacteristically blushed at the mention of his name. "Yeah yeah I know, it's just.. embarrassing.."

Chrissy rolled her eyes sarcasticly. "Let's finish eating these and head over there, okay?" To which Sam nodded in response.

After some time passed, they found their way into scoops ahoy. And there working the register, was Steve Harrington. "Maybe we should go, I don't-" Sam turned to leave but Chrissy grabbed her and looked her in the eyes.

"Come on Sam, just talk to him. What's the worst that could happen?"

"I could fall on my face or stutter or..or..." Chrissy couldn't help but be amused. Sam was always the confident one, always pushing her to do things. But now it was Chrissy's turn.

"Sam, go, trust me." She gave Sam's arm a reassuring squeeze and turned her towards the counter. Sam gulped loudly before walking towards the counter. Chrissy leaned up against the outside of the shop, watching her talk. She couldn't hear anything but she and Steve were smiling so, it couldn't have been a bad conversation.

Satisfied that Sam wasn't going to embarrass herself, Chrissy walked over to the music store that was beside Scoops Ahoy.

As soon as she walked in and looked up, she saw him. Eddie munson. She froze in place and just looked at him. He was with two other people, presumably his friends. They all wore leather jackets and had darker hair. One of them had quite a few piercings as well.

Eddie pointed over to a different side of the store and said something chrissy couldn't hear, but his friends just nodded. After he walked over to the area he pointed to, he looked up and locked eyes with Chrissy.

For a second they felt like the only two people in the world. Chrissy walked up to Eddie. "Hey" she said quietly.

"Whats up princess?" He smiled down at her. She didn't know why, but whenever he called her that she felt like she was floating.

Eddie was mildly surprised she was even talking to him. Sure she stayed over, but they were in public now.

"I'm here with Sam, she's over at Scoops Ahoy" Chrissy stumbled over her words as they came out. She didn't really know why she was so nervous around him.

Eddie chuckled as he kept looking through different tapes. "You buy anything interesting?" He nodded down to the bag. Chrissy remembered that she bought an underwear set just because she thought Eddie might like them and her face felt warm. "Um..not really, just some clothes.."

Eddie wondered why she was blushing so hard now, but as he opened his mouth to speak, a voice behind Chrissy called out. "You want something, freak?" The voice belonged to Jason. Chrissy turned around and saw Jason and his friend Andy standing there, obviously pissed off.

"Jason, what are you doing here?" Chrissy went to walk towards him but he just ignored her entirely. He stared down Eddie.

"Nah man." Eddie smiled and took a stepback. Chrissy noticed that Jason wasn't thinking so she put a hand on his chest. He looked down at her. "He just wanted to know something about social studies. We share that period." Chrissy was afraid of Jason and what he might do. She didn't want Eddie hurt.

Jason nodded and looked back at Eddie. "Next time ask someone else, freak." Jason took Chrissy's hand and dragged her outside. She didn't resist him. Before they left the store Chrissy turned her head and made eye contact with Eddie. She mouthed the word "sorry" to him to which he looked disappointed and shook his head.

Once they were out of the store Sam came out with a smile on her face that quickly faded when she saw Chrissy being led along by Jason and Andy. "Whats going on?" She asked, concerned.

Jason looked over at her "Eddie the freak was harassing her." Jason said, annoyed.

"No he wasn't, I promise. He's really not a bad guy Jason." Chrissy pulled her hand free of Jason's grip to which he turned around and looked at her. "Not a bad guy? Chrissy do you hear yourself? He worships the devil, he has tattoos, he's a freak!" Jason was walking towards Chrissy now, talking down at her aggressively. "If he's being nice to you then he must have some ulterior motive, don't be stupid"

Tears were welling in Chrissy's eyes now, she refused to believe it. "No Jason really he-" Jason cut her off "That's enough!" His voice was raised now. Chrissy just nodded and went silent, trying to stop the tears from streaming down her face.

Thankfully Sam stepped in, she grabbed Chrissy's now free hand and pulled her away from Jason. "Come on, my mom is waiting for us." She had to lie to get Chrissy away from Jason.

Jason watched them walk away and shook his head. Just then Eddie emerged from the music store with his friends and started walking the opposite direction, totally oblivious to what just happened. Jason stared at them. "We gotta do something about that asshole" he said to Andy. Andy nodded in agreement.
