Yui's POV:
10 months passed and today was the day of the UA's entrance exam. I stood at the very back of the hero course exam orientation room, blending in with the shadows and hiding my presence while I watched as Zashi, alias the Voice Hero: Present Mic, confidently walked towards the podium.
"To all examinees out there, welcome to my live performance! EVERYBODY SAY, 'HEY'!" he excitedly said...well, screamed.
...
...
...
However, the room stayed silent.
"Keeping it mellow, huh?" Zashi joked. "That's fine, I'll skip straight to the main show. Let's talk about how this practical exam is gonna go down, okay? ARE YOU READY?! YEAH!"
...
...
...
It was so quiet that you could literally hear a pin drop. I just rolled my eyes at his enthusiasm and scanned the room, hoping to spot a certain green haired boy. To my luck, he wasn't that hard to find.
"Oh my goodness, it's the Voice Hero, Present Mic. So cool! I listen to his radio show every day of the week. It's so crazy nuts that all the UA teachers are pro heroes," Izuku muttered excitedly, loud enough for even me to hear it.
I sweat dropped as the spiky ash-blond haired boy beside him told him to shut up.
Third Person's POV:
"As your application said, today you rockin' boys and girls will be out there conducting ten‐minute mock battles in super‐hip urban settings. Gird your loins, my friends. After I drop the mic here, you'll head to your specified battle center, sounds good?" the pro hero explained.
"I see. They're splitting us up so we can't work with any of our friends," Katsuki said as he glanced at Izuku's application card.
"Yeah. You're right. Our examinee numbers are one after the other, but we're assigned to different battle centers," Izuku replied before hesitantly peaking at his childhood friend's card.
"Don't look, wanna die?!" Katsuki threatened, frightening the boy. "Tch, I was really looking forward to crushing you, dammit!"
"Okay, okay, let's check out your targets." Behind Present Mic was a big screen that showed the simplified information of what the examinees would face. "There are three types of faux villains in every battle center. You'll earn points based on their level of difficulty, so better choose wisely. Your goal in this trial is to use your Quirk to raise your score by shredding these faux villains like a mid‐song guitar solo. But, check it! Make sure you're keeping things heroic. Attacking other examinees is a UA no‐no, ya dig?"
"Excuse me, sir, but I have a question." A blue haired boy with glasses abruptly stood up.
"Hit me!"
"On the printout, you've listed four types of villains. Not three. With all due respect, if this is an error on official UA materials, it is shameful. We are exemplary students. We expect the best from Japan's most notable school. A mistake such as this won't do." The boy then pointed at Izuku. "Additionally, you with the unkempt hair."
The green haired boy was confused. "Huh?"
"You've been muttering the entire time. If you can't bother to take this seriously, leave! You're distracting the rest of us."
"S-Sorry!" Izuku quickly closed his mouth shut with both of his hands, causing the students in the room to laugh at him.
Present Mic nodded at the blue haired boy's question. "Okay, okay. Examinee number 7111. Thanks for the nice message. The fourth villain type is worth zero points. That guy's just an obstacle we'll be throwing in your way. There's one in every battle center. Think of it as a hurdle you should try to avoid. It's not that it can't be beaten, but there's...kinda no point. I recommend my listeners try to ignore it and focus on the ones topping the charts."
"Thank you very much and please excuse my rudeness." The blue haired boy politely bowed his head and sat back down.
"Alright! That's all I got for you today. I'll sign off with a little present. It's a sample of our school motto! As General Napoleon Bonaparte once laid down, 'True heroism consists in being superior to the ills of life.' Go beyond, PLUS ULTRA!"
"Good luck, Izuku," a sudden voice said, startling both Izuku and Katsuki.
Knowing the familiar voice, Izuku smiled and thanked her in his head. Katsuki, however, looked around but didn't find anybody talking to them.
"Good luck to you too, Bakugou Katsuki," the voice added, surprising the duo again.
"Who the fuck was that?" Katsuki muttered, looking around again, only to meet a pair of familiar glowing blue eyes. He tried to get a glimpse of the figure's face but unfortunately, the figure vanished again from his sight.
"Deku," he growled at the boy beside him, "whose voice was that just now?"
"H-Huh? W-What v-voice?" Izuku asked, pretending not to hear anything while nervously avoiding his gaze.
Katsuki glared at him but decided to let it go as he turned his head away, clicking his tongue in annoyance.
Izuku sighed in relief and got ready for his exam.
Yui's POV:
"This year's group looks promising, am I right?" commented a teacher in the monitoring room.
"Of course they are!" I happily replied while emerging from the shadows, scaring half of the teachers there to death.
"Ah! There you are, Yui!" Nezu, the principal of UA, said in a chirpy way. "I was beginning to think that you won't show up."
I chuckled as I crossed my arms and leaned back against the wall. "I wouldn't miss it for the world. After all, I am rooting for two of the students there."
"Oh? And who are they, lil' listener?" Zashi curiously asked.
"That...is a secret!" I cheekily winked at him before focusing my attention back to the screen.
"No, it's too early to decide," another teacher said, pressing the yaruki switch. "Their real quality...will be tested now!"
I smirked at his words. 'Now, what will you guys do?'
•••
After the exams ended, I went out of the room, stretching both my arms while Zashi and Shouta, also known as The Erasure Hero: Eraser Head, followed behind me.
"How 'bout we get a drink, huh?" Zashi suggested to Shouta.
However, his friend kept quiet and continued to walk down the long hall.
Knowing very well that he wouldn't be getting an answer anytime soon, Zashi turned to me. "How 'bout you, lil' listener? You're up for a drink with your favorite uncle Zashi?"
I shook my head. "Gomen, Zashi. I need to go home and prepare for my nightly hunt. The prey that I was tracking for weeks has finally decided to come out from its hiding place. And sorry to burst your bubbles, but you're not my favorite uncle.... Just saying, you know."
Zashi began to whine at me. Shouta, on the other hand, just rolled his eyes at his friend's attitude and turned to me. "Good luck, kid."
I grinned at him and nodded. "Arigatou, Dadzawa! Well then, I better get going. Jaa ne!" I flicked my wrist as a blue warp gate formed in front of me.
The last thing I heard before entering the warp gate was Zashi complaining about the nickname I gave to Shouta, which made me smile a bit.
Unfortunately, it didn't last long because as soon as the gate closed behind me, my smile instantly vanished. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I then opened them again, revealing my now glowing electric-blue eyes.
"Let the hunt...begin!"
