Your parents have never really supported your relationship with the one and only, Micheal Wheeler. They knew how complicated his parents' relationship was and didn't want the same for you.
The argument started by a simple "I don't think you know what you're getting into with him," and escalated to you telling them you would leave if they didn't just simply except your relationship with him. You knew it was mildly abusive to say that but you really had had enough of their shit at this point.
You spoke to Mike about it and Karen overheard. She told you to speak to your parents about it. She told you that even if they didn't support it was your life, but their your parents. If they really do love you they'll let it continue.
Then she had a conversation with Mike making sure that he knew how to act around your parents.
