Sitting at breakfast, Seren was munching on some sweet fruit when a note landed next to her plate. It read:
Seren -
Tamlin locked Feyre in the house. I tried to stop him, but he won't be reasoned with. Please come get her. And make sure she doesn't come back.
LucienAs soon as she read the short letter, she jumped up. Luckily, she was already dressed in long flowy blue pants and a tied white shirt. "What is it?" Mor asked from the other side of the table.
"Feyre is in trouble. I have to go get her out of the Spring Court," Seren replied.
Rhys stood, "I'm coming with you."
Shaking her head, Seren said, "No you can't. Lucien doesn't want me to bring her back. If you go in and take her with the intention of never bringing her back, Tamlin has every right to march his army into the Night Court and take her back with force. Especially since Hybern is gearing up for an invasion, we can't risk losing any of our soldiers to him."
Rhys looked like he was in pain, "Can I talk to you in private?"
Glancing around at the rest of the Inner Circle, Seren was kind of confused as to why he didn't want to talk about this in front of them. But nonetheless, Seren nodded and gestured for him to lead the way. He led them out to the deck and stopped so abruptly that Seren almost crashed into his back. Turning quickly, Rhys grabbed her upper arms, "Seren, don't go. I know you care about Feyre but I don't know if I can let you go by yourself. What if Tamlin knows you are coming and tries to hurt you?"
Smiling softly at him, she tried to reassure him, "Rhys, I'll be alright. Lucien's note said that Tamlin locked her in the house. That most likely means he isn't there. I'll be able to get in and out quickly."
Rhys shook his head, "But what if he is there? Or something goes wrong?"
"Nothing will go wrong Rhys. I'll be back before you know it."
He dropped to his knees in front of her and wrapped his arms around her torso, "Please Seren. You don't have to go. We can find a different way to help Feyre."
Before she could even register what she was doing, she had pulled his head to her stomach. For some reason, she couldn't help but try to comfort him. She chalked it up to her just feeling protective over her friend. He had started shaking and Seren wanted to cry for him, "Shhh, Rhys. I'll be there and back before you even realize I'm gone."
She knew that he probably thought history would repeat itself and Seren would end up just like his sister and mother. But his family had been caught off guard that night. She knew exactly what she was getting herself into. When he didn't respond to her, she dropped to her knees and grasped his face in both her hands, "If I'm not back in an hour, send Az and Cass. Okay?"
He nodded his head, seeming to be beyond words. Seren sighed and lent over to kiss the top of his forehead. Before she could second guess herself, she winnowed just outside of Tamlin's manor.
Quickly, she ducked behind a tree. She didn't want to risk being seen before she could assess the situation. She could hear some disturbance inside his manor but had no clue what was causing it. From her position, Seren could see two guards standing by the gates to the gardens surrounding the manor. They both wore concerned expressions but didn't move from their post.
Lucien's note had said something about Tamlin locking Feyre in the house. But Seren figured there was more to it than a simple lock and guards. Feyre could have easily gotten out if that was the case so there must be some sort of magic at play. But Seren needed to get past the guards in order to check it out. She also needed to make sure they didn't hear anything odd and come find her.
