Each year the people of Athens would visit the nearest mountain and worship the exiled Hephaestus wishing great industrial advancements upon them. They'd give him golds for him to melt into swords and pottery inspired by him. Zeus aggravated by the affection the mortals were giving his son, sent down a anvil he had cursed to scare every mortal away. Hephaestus, while forging Achilles covers for his heels, struck the anvil causing the mountain to be filled by a great fire which covered Hephaestus and burned his flesh.
He felt every inch of the fire when he made his way out every one in Athens surrounded him as they finally recognized their hero they hid their children in disgust of the ugliest god in the mortal realm, because of this he went back inside the burning mountain and suffered the pain until the rocks in side melted and filled the mountain with hot magma. After some time the magma over flowed and poured out the top of the mountain and made its way towards Athens below.
Zeus shot a bolt down from Olympus follow that was light drips of water, which turned into a great storm cooling the lava down. The people of Athens worshipped Zeus again and let his son live in the volcano never to be worshipped again.
