Chapter 3

Nia

I groaned as my alarm went off. It was time for me to get ready for work.

I smiled as I seen my husband fully dressed in a suit, he always look good in those.

"Goodmorning baby." I climbed out of bed.

"Goodmorning sweetheart." He jogged over to peck my cheek.

"We're still on for tonight, right?" I asked Mario.

Mario smile quickly faded away. "I'm so sorry baby, inspectors are coming by today and I have to be there to make sure everything is running smoothly."

I bit down on my bottom lip as I grabbed my robe that was hanging on the back of our door. "Okay, I see." I rolled my eyes, this was nothing new.

I shouldn't have got excited. Mario and I were suppose to go out on a double date with our friends tonight.

"I have an emergency meeting this weekend, so I'll be going out of town." Mario added.

"Oh." I bluntly said. "Enjoy." I angrily slammed the bathroom door locking it.

"Nia." Mario knocked on the bathroom door.

I ignored him as I hovered over the sink crying my eyes out. Mario and I barely spend time together anymore, everything is about his job.

I cut the shower on and relaxed my mind as the lukewarm water hit my body.

After my shower I put on my personal things & slid into my nursing uniform.

"Ughhhh Jay get your own!" I heard Ariana yell from the kitchen.

I shook my head as I listened to my kids argue.

"Hey what's all that damn racket?" I stood in the kitchen with my hand on my hip.

"Jayden put his dirty mouth on my spoon." Ariana whined.

"Why you always picking with your sister Jayden?"

"Man she takes stuff too serious, little punk ass."

I popped Jayden upside his head and Ariana snickered.

"Boy watch your got damn mouth, you aren't 18 yet."

"Chill ma, I will be soon." Jayden rubbed the side of his head.

"Hurry yall asses up before I be late for work." I grabbed a granola bar, a banana, and a bottle of water.

"Don't worry baby I'll take them to school today." Rio wrapped his arms around my waist and rested his chin on my shoulder.

"I thought you left?" I furrowed an eyebrow, surprised he was still here.

"Naw, went to check the oil in the car. You little rascals ready?"

"Pops chill, don't call me Ari's name."

"Ugh you're such an aggravator." Ariana grabbed her bookbag off the floor.

"Spell it, little punk." Jayden grabbed his binder off the counter.

Mario and I both looked at eachother and shook our heads. I don't know what we're going to do with these two.

"Kids behave, love yall. See yall later." I yelled as they headed for the door.

"Love you too ma." They both shouted.

"And I love you." I pecked Mario's lips. "Have a good day at work baby."

"I love you more, and I will you too sweetheart." Mario kissed me back.

After I watched Mario and the kids leave off I grabbed my car keys off the table and headed out. As I was locking up the house, I heard no other but Christopher.

"Nia, Goodmorning beautiful." He walked over shirtless.

"Goodmorning Chris." I took a quick peek and turned my head the other way, he know what he's doing.

"Look at you in your little nursing scrubs." He faked cough. "I think I'm getting sick, you should ditch work and take care of me."

I looked over at him and laughed as I playfully punched his shoulder. "Boy you have jokes, I have money to make. & if I don't get in my car in 2 minutes I will be late." I started walking towards my car.

"all jokes aside, what are you doing this weekend?" Chris followed me towards my car. Once he heard the locks pop he opened the door for me. I found that so sweet.

"Thank you Chris." I looked up at him and smiled as I climbed in my car. "I'm not sure my plans were canceled. Why what's up?" I started my car.

"Let me show you some of my art work, and dinner on me."

"I'll think about it." I bit my lip.

"You know where I live, next you'll know my number." He winked as he walked away backwards. "Tell me when you think of your answer which I know will be yes." He smirked.

I shook my head and laughed. "Cocky ass." I mumbled.

"What was that?" Chris yelled.

"I said see ya later Hun." I used my free hand to wave at him as I backed out of the driveway.

Mario

"Bryan make sure the dishes are cleaned and sanitized." I patted his shoulder.

"Lisa, how's the cleaning coming along?"

"Good sir." She turned around and gave me a thumbs up.

"Alright now." I laughed.

I was laughing, but deep down I was stressing my ass off. Last year's inspection was a disaster, I swear those inspectors find the smallest thing to complain about.

"Well well well if it isn't Rio!" I heard a familiar voice say.

I turned around and furrowed an eyebrow as my eyes met my ex wife . "Paris?"

"You remember me alright." She smirked.

I gave her a confused look as she was holding a clipboard in her hand.

"May I ask..what are you doing here?"

"I'm your inspector for today." She smiled as she grabbed her pencil from behind her ear.

"A lot of stress is relieved now, I know you'll be easy on me right?" I mumbled.

"Not so fast Mr. Perez. Only one condition."

I paused and gulped as she stared me down. "And what's that?"

"Show me how much you miss me and I'll pass you. If not I'll fail you." Paris smirked.

"Come on Paris, I'm a married man. I have a family, I can't do that."

"Look Mario, she doesn't have to know. It's either your job or your family, you choose." She patted my shoulder.

"Now, let's get started with this inspection. I'm excited to see this restaurant you created." She followed behind me.

I held my head down with my hands in my pockets. Why me?😩
