JISOO
"Jisoo! A package came in for you!" my mom yelled from downstairs. My eyebrows automatically pinched together at the mention of a package coming for me since
I never got those.
The only times I did was when I ordered something online, and I rarely did that.
"Coming!" I yelled back.
I skipped down the stairs to where my mom was standing in the kitchen.
"It doesn't say who it's from, it just says 'Kim Jisoo', so I think it was delivered directly to the front porch by the person who wants you to have it, "my mom explained, shrugging at the weird occurrence. I frowned, but nodded and took the box off the counter. It was not very heavy, so I wondered what it could be.
I walked back up to my room and shut the door before sitting down on my bed to examine the box in my hands. It was wrapped in some sort of brown paper with tape securing it. It took me about five minutes of speculation and me being confused before I opened the box.
I slowly peeled the tape and paper off, revealing a green and black box. It almost looked like the kind of package you receive when you buy shoes. It was green with black leaves and a black lid. I lifted the top and I was quite surprised by what it contained.
Inside the box, I found a bunch of numbered cassettes. They were rather old by the looks of it. Each had a number from one to thirteen plus a different pair of initials. I instantly searched for mine, finding them on the very last tape.
I figured I got these for listening to them, so I searched my room for a walkman. I knew for a fact that I had one because I remembered using it when I was younger. As I looked around my room - that meant my desk, under the bed and then got tired of searching - I wondered what the tapes say.
If there was music on them, or maybe some prank, I didn't know. It was probably not that big of a deal, so I didn't understand why I was suddenly getting so eager, and almost nervous to hear it.
Since I got tired of looking after about 2 minutes, finding it impossible to find them, I called my mom.
"Mum!"
A couple of seconds later, she was standing in the doorframe. "Yes, sweetie?"
"I can't find my Walkman. Do you know where it is?" I asked.
She took just about one look around my room before pointing to the same desk I was searching for before, to where the Walkman lay.
My eyes widened.
Why did I not see that back? And why does that always happen to me?
"Oh, thanks, "I smiled sheepishly. She rolled her eyes playfully before walking out of the room again.
I grabbed the walkman, took the first tape out of the box, and put it in. After having found my earbuds, I pressed play on the walkman, not at all prepared for what was about to happen next.
"Hello, boys and girls, "a voice spoke and I immediately recognized it, making me nearly fall from my bed.
It couldn't be her.
She was dead.
But it was her. The voice was so clear to me, it could be no one else.
Kim Jennie.
Jennie and I went to high school together. Well, until she committed suicide at least.
I never really had much of a relationship with her, I wanted to though. You see, all through high school, I pined after her daily, and in the end, I think she knew.
I crushed on her so much that I, at last, came to terms with the fact that I was in love with her even though we had spoken like two times. So, after I heard she died, I was a heartbroken mess on the edge of becoming depressed actually. It affected me so much that I had to go to therapy for a couple of months.
So when I first heard her voice again, four months after she had killed herself, I was in complete and utter shock. I immediately pressed pause, so I could compose myself.
I took a deep breath and somewhat prepared myself for what was to come before starting the cassette over again.
"Hello, boys and girls. Kim Jennie here. Live and in stereo. Can you believe it?"
"No," I mumbled out in a whisper to myself.
"Well, you might as well have to, because this is happening. You're probably wondering why you're hearing a dead girl talk to you right now, but I'm actually about to tell you. You see, my life has become a hell hole in the end, and if you're listening to this, you're one of the reasons why. And believe me when I say; dead girls don't lie, so don't try to deny any of this."
"No. I can't be, "I tried to explain myself. I didn't know what I would do if I was the reason Jennie killed herself.
"The rules are thus; after you hear every tape you have to pass the tapes to the next person in the line. For the person the last tape is dedicated to, there are some special rules I'll come back to later."
The last tape was dedicated to me.
"Let's get started, shall we? Reason number one. This was what started it all."
