Chapter Eight: Bella

I really, really hoped that the vampire Edward and Jasper spotted last night was just a harmless passerby, and not someone involved with Victoria. Although we hadn't had any sing of her in months, she was still at large. Not only that, but the Volturi were still waiting on us to come through with our promise, so the vampire could have been someone they sent in to see if I was still human or not.

I sighed, pacing back and forth in my bedroom, as I waited for Edward to arrive. I knee he would show up eventually to explain everything. Alice told me she had a vision of everything being fine, but it wouldn't be the first time one of them lied to me for "my own good".

I then decided to focus on something positive to keep my thoughts from running wild, and my panic under control.

Alice had been right, as usual, and I actually did have fun. Mostly because we reached a compromise where she actually let me shoo for my style of clothes, but only if I agreed to buy one outfit of her choosing. Thankfully she never made me agree to wear it, though I knew eventually I would have to just to make her happy.

A sudden flicker of movement to my left made me jump slightly, then blow out a sigh of relief.

"Edward." I whispered, and quickly went to him, throwing my arms around him in a tight hug.

A musical, soft chuckle met my ears, as I felt his arms wrap around me, returning the hug.

"Its good to see you too." He said, sounding amused.

I smiled happily, and pulled back to look up at him. His gorgeous golden eyes were warm, and his face was calm and relaxed. Both extremely good signs. Meant, most likely, whoever he and Jasper had spotted last night, was indeed, just a harmless passerby.

"So, who was the rogue?" I asked, as Edward pulled himself away, and led me to sit on the bed. He then pulled up the chair from my desk, so that he could sit in front of me.

"Just someone passing through. He was young and didn't know the area very well. We pointed him North and that was the end of it."  He explained.

I nodded, relieved, and tucked a stray hair behind my ear.

"So, there hasn't been any sign of Victoria anywhere has there?" I asked, watching for his reaction.

He simply raised an eyebrow, then shook his head with a smile.
"No, not at all. At first, I was a little bothered by her sudden disappearance, but the longer she stays gone, the more I begin to think that she's either finally given up, or met her end at the hands of someone else."

That would be a major relief.

"I was going to hang out with Jake for a little while this afternoon, while Charlie goes fishing, so we can spend the day together till then of you'd like." A large grin spread across my face at the thought of spending time with my vampire.

But suddenly, something in his expression changed. Just the tiniest bit of the previous warmth in his eyes left, and his features hardened ever so slightly.

"Actually Bella, I've already spoken with Jacob this morning, and asked him to meet us here." Edward spoke, watching me.

My mouth fell open, and I wasn't sire if I wanted to be shocked, or excited. Did they finally decide to try and get along? Were they making an attempt to both spend the day with me? I then decides to settle for both. Shock and excitement.

Edward's voice broke through my frantic thoughts, making me realize the dumb look I.must have had on my face, and causing me to snap my mouth shut and look at him.

"Did you hear me, Bella?" He asked, his expression unreadable.

A smile started pulling at my lips as I managed to respond, finally.
"Yes, well, I hope I heard you! Are you serious? He's coming here? I get to spend the day with both of you...together?"

I was astonished! This was like a dream come true! The two most important people in my life were finally going to give each other a chance!

Suddenly, the words just started pouring out.
"Oh, this is so wonderful, Edward! I just knew one day you two would come around and start to see things my way! I'm just so happy right now!"

A sudden knock on my bedroom window made me jump and turn around.

"Jacob!" I exclaimed, as I jumped up from the bed, and yanked the window up for him to climb in. Once inside, he wrapped me up in a huge warm hug.

"Good to see you, Bells." He chuckled, as I squeezed him with excitement.

Quickly, I turned and glances at Edward to see his reaction to me and Jake hugging. To my immense surprise, he was smiling.

I pulled away from Jacob, and pulled him to sit with me on the bed. This was incredible, I just couldn't believe it!

"So, what happened? What made you two finally come around?" I asked, happily, but a tiny bit of concern kept nagging at the back of my brain.

I mean, they were enemies and ready to kill each other just yesterday...

My smile faltered just slightly, as my blind happiness started to slip, and logic started to take its place.

I looked at Edward, whose smile was gone, and was studying me carefully. Then, I turned my eyes to Jacob, who was actually watching Edward and looking...nervous?

"Okay, what's going on?" I asked in a whisper.

Edward's eyes shot to Jacob for a fraction of a second, then back to me.

"Jacob has imprinted." He answered simply.

I just stared at him for a moment, as the weight of what he just said sunk in.

I knew he hadn't imprinted on me. He had told me once that I would know it if he had. So this meant he had finally found his soulmate. This meant that he wouldn't be obsessing over me anymore, and we could finally be just best friends like I always wanted. And maybe, now the fighting between him and Edward would stop!

Turning to Jake, with a huge smile, o exclaimed, "Jake, that's great! So, who is she? Is she from Forks? La Push? Come on, Jake spill!"

Jake looked at Edward, then back to me. Why did he keep doing that?

"Well, Bella...its um..its not a she..." He said quietly.

"Oh...well, so!" I grinned. "So, it's a he, then. Love is love, Jacob." I figured he would have been relieves to hear that, but he suddenly looked panicky.

"Jake, what's wrong?" I asked, then glanced at Edward who had his eyes locked on Jacob.

All of a sudden, something clicked in my brain.

"Oh. My. God." Then everything went dark.
