Leaving May Help

Today I decided I should talk to the boss to see what I should do. Maybe he can get May to see what I know needs to be done. I look at Haru who is sitting on the bed patiently for me.

"Haru, I am done getting ready now. Let's get our shoes on now okay?" He jumps off the bed and runs to me hugging me as I wince but quickly hide it. I pick him up and carry him on my hip even when it hurts. He starts rubbing the bandage on my neck from coming up.

I put him on the desk chair and went towards the small shoe rack by the door. I grab his and my shoes walking back over to him. I get on one knee placing our shoes on the floor. As I was about to grab his foot to put a shoe on he grabbed the shoe.

"Mommy don't worry I can do it by myself. You just put on your shoes." I smile and nod my head thinking of how caring and grown-up he has become over the year he has been with me. He is quite smart and mannered.

Putting on my shoe I started to remember that Haru's birthday is coming up soon. I only know it because when we took him we had to delete a lot of info but I kept most of it for him such as his first name and birthday.

I winced when I rubbed my hand where there was a bruise. I got frustrated and left it alone thinking of getting my vans instead of wearing my pumas. But I was surprised when May started to put my shoes on for me.

"Ah, May it's okay I can do it myself. I can just wear my vans." He shook his head and smiled before kissing my hand and finishing on tying my shoelaces. I thanked him once he was done. I grabbed my phone and gun strapping to my side under my crop hoodie.

Just as I was about to grab my knife and put it in the knife holster around my ankle. He took it and picked up my pant leg, placing it in its holster for me. I thanked him and also gave him a kiss on the forehead.

He jumped up happily and picked up Haru before grabbing my hand. "Ah May where are you taking me?" He kissed my hand before smiling down at me. "We are going to a near-by carnival in town."

My eyes grew big before I spoke, stopping in my tracks, "Do you know what you're saying right now? The Doves are still out there and after the Mafia, especially me, I can not let you get in any danger as well as my son."

He didn't say anything for a moment, just smiled at me and chuckled, "Yumi you know you can't stay hiding from the world forever. I can protect you if you would let me. I will protect you both. Haru is as important to me as you are. Besides, I would love to take you both to places you have never been."

I sighed thinking it over before I looked back up at him, "Alright fine I will let us go just this one time to see how it goes. I just don't like the fact that we don't have guards, you know what day it is."

He nodded and looked at me before saying don't worry about it. I bit my lip before nodding and grabbing a backpack and going to my drawers grabbing extra clothes and little snacks I had stashed for Haru.

I walked back to them and smiled before making sure I had my wallet and keys. "All set let us go see your dad first though I need to talk to him about something." He nodded before we started to walk to his dad's office.

"So do you mind telling me what you have to talk to the old man about?" I laughed at his nickname for his father. "So Haru, what are you most excited about seeing at a carnival?" Haru started to ramble on as May looked at me, noticing my quick change of subject.

I told May to stand outside the door until I was done speaking to his father. Haru insisted on coming with me no matter what so I took him in with me while May stayed outside. It took some time to get him to stay out of the office while I spoke to his father in private.

I knocked on his father's door waiting till I heard him yell come in. I stepped in with Haru closing the door behind me. As soon as the boss looked up and saw me and Haru he smiled.

"Well if it isn't my main guard and my favorite little guy." We both giggled and I felt Haru pull on my pants. I looked down and knew what he was asking, so I nudged him forward. He ran to the boss jumping on him as the man hugged him and chuckled.

"Now not that I am not glad to see you both. Please tell me, what do you need today, Yumi." I bowed and came forward as I stood in front of his desk. "Sir, I am here to speak to you about maybe my position here at the residence. I think that I should be moved to the Main Guards HQ."

The boss looked shocked at my request, "But Yumi I thought you were the one who wanted to live closer to me and my son." I nodded my head before looking down and sighing. At the time I wanted to be able to get to them if need be.

"Sir, I am sorry to say this but I may have fallen for your son." He didn't seem shocked by what I said and I started to get worried. I figured by now that he would have been angry. But there was no sign of a negative emotion.

He started to give Haru pieces of candy as he spoke, "You know when I brought you here I meant for you to become nothing else but a tool. But you became just as important to me as my family did. I want you to be happy no matter what your role is in this family. Even if you were to pursue my son."

I was taken aback by his words, "Sir are you sure this is okay for me to keep these feelings. I could be a burden or set your son back. He is the next in line and should have more choices." He thought about it before he sighed and stayed quiet for a moment.

I looked at my hands beginning to feel torn at what I should do. Going into deep thought I heard crying and I instantly looked up to see Haru. He was crying trying to get out of Asher's arms. He ran to me once he got free and I picked him up hugging him tightly.

The door opened behind us and I felt a warm pair of arms wrap around me from behind. I didn't even notice I was crying which was what made Haru cry. I start to rub his back to calm him down.

"Yumi I just want you to be happy but come back to speak on the topic we were talking about another time." I nodded as May started to drag me out of his dad's office. He seemed to give Asher a look that sent shivers down my spine. Did he think that I was crying because of the boss?

"What was going on in there for you both to be crying?" He said before he hugged us again and then kissed my forehead and then Haru's. I shook my head and told him I would tell him later after we went to the carnival. He nodded his head before taking Haru from me and giving me a tissue from the box in the lobby. I cleaned up Haru and I before we took off to the carnival.
