You Can Never Escape

This is not the way I wanted things to go for our first trip out. But somehow they knew what today was. They took advantage of it and I had to almost lose the people that I care about.

Why did this have to happen?

The plan for today was to go to the carnival. I was still very worried about not having guards to protect May and Haru. But he insisted that I stop worrying about it. Today was the guards only day off in weeks so we were not gonna bother anyone. We could have gone another time but he insisted today. I think he really wanted to make us happy no matter what.

Haru was very excited about being able to see all the games and rides to get on. I was very surprised at his energy all of a sudden though at the same time I would get why he would be acting that way. This is the first time we have been out in so long. When I first was able to leave the house, as long as I had a guard with me of course, we went out to the park all the time.

He would notice that I was always so careful so he never threw a fit on it. Haru could tell that I tried to avoid going far. But this is much more different considering what has happened since then. The Doves were still after me since I was a rarity. They found out from that night about the monster and were out to get me or kill me.

I shivered thinking about that night and then looked at May. He doesn't know about it since he didn't see it that night. I am happy he doesn't but if he was to see such a side of me I would break down. That monster must not ever come out again. It has been awhile but it's never the end.

Haru has seen it plenty of times but never really seen me kill or harm anyone. I feel bad that he had but he was the only one who calmed me down. He was never scared of me but deep down I know he doesn't like it. I mean what kid would like that thing inside me. It still surprised me when I knew he wasn't scared of it.

May snapped me out of my thoughts suddenly. "Yumi?" I nodded looking at him. "You okay? You shouldn't be thinking about unnecessary things. Have fun with Haru. It was what I brought you both here for." I smiled and said okay as Haru ran to me with an animal hat. It was a hamster that was black and white.

"You want that one baby?" He nodded his head yelling yes making me and May laugh. We paid for the hat and a few other things he wanted. We tried to tell him he could have more if he wanted but he insisted he was okay with the few things he had. He was more humble than most children these days.

We walked through the carnival before going on little rides with Haru. He was a little daredevil for sure since he loved rides. He says he couldn't wait to get bigger so he can ride the bigger ones. He could only ride the ones meant for his age. He loved this dragon one that was a mini version of the big twisty ones.

We were just sitting down to eat near this food truck that had a few tables and chairs out. May left to get some funnel cake while I ordered from the food truck. I sat down with Haru as he looked at all the food I bought. He smiled as he licked his lips.

I giggled and started helping him to eat before there was a clicking noise. Then hard metal was put against my back. I looked at Haru who didn't notice before turning my head to see a Dove. Shit, I said, grabbing his attention towards the man behind me. I shook my head and said, "Haru I love you and puppies." He responded right away, "Mommy can I use the potty?" I gestured for him to go as I stood up.

Haru is a smart boy and he will go get May for me. He was taught to do so when I signaled him with that phrase. "So, you risked letting the little runt go huh?" The man said as he chuckled. My eyes got big once I saw another Dove come from where Haru ran.

"Mommy! I'm sorry!" He cried as the man held a gun to him. "It's okay baby you did a good job!" He quieted down once the man told him to shut up. I yelled at the guy to leave him alone.

"What is he your child? Don't tell me the bitch has been knocked up before?" I held my tongue since he didn't even know the whole story. He is my child but I am not some slut. I elbowed him in his stomach and grabbed the gun from him knocking him out with it. I heard screaming and yelling around me reminding me we were in public.

I turned to the other Dove holding Haru and pointed my gun at him. Ignoring the people running away I looked him dead in the eye as he smiled and whistled. Five other guys walked out from behind him and in between me and him. "Why are you here?" I yelled at the man while trying to think of a plan.

"You of course sweetie! Now surrender nicely or your son gets it!"

Haru bites the guy in his arm, making the man drop the gun in his hand. He was soon knocked out by the guy hitting across the head hard. I screamed at him and yelled for Haru to respond to me.

I saw red when Haru didn't respond to me calling his name. How could he do such a thing to a sweet boy? Not noticing that I was starting to blackout I yelled once more before I could remember anything.

I soon gained back my consciousness as I saw the men from earlier now in red clothes and Haru in May's arms. I stepped back as I thought of what he saw. I haven't blacked out fully in four years since my training. The scene before me made me angry at myself.

"Yumi, please look at me." He said as he walked closer but I started to cry. He wasn't supposed to see it or know about it and now he does. "I am so sorry that you had to see me become the monster I am. Today was a bad idea from the start. Please take care of Haru for me."

I ran off with him trying to come after me but stopping when his phone rang. The last thing I heard before I was out of his range was his father's name. I didn't look back and just kept running to let off some steam. I still wasn't in my right mind.

Then again when was I ever.
