Legend of Zelda, The Kingdom's Tears

Evil Awakening

"This strange gloom keeps getting thicker", Zelda said, she, Link, and Kate descending down underground.

"This stuff reminds me of the malice from the calamity", Kate stated.

"It'd be best to keep your guard up", Link warned.

"We've been descending for awhile now... these tunnels are deeper than I thought, what could be down here", Zelda asked.

"Don't know, but I'm quite shocked to learn that I never noticed this while exploring", Kate muttered, making Zelda laugh.

"No one even knew about this, not even father", Zelda stated before looking forward, "people have been falling ill after coming into contact with the gloom drifting through these caverns, though here it seems almost misty and not concentrated enough to harm us",

"Whatever it is, it's coming from below the castle", Kate explained, "and we have no idea what's in here, just stay close and as Link said, keep your guard up",

"Let's go solve this mystery", Zelda said as the three continued forward and reaching some mysterious ruins, nearing its entrance, the Master Swords began glowing, "the Master Swords... it must be sensing something",

"You know what this means", Link said, turning his head towards Kate who nodded her head.

"Last time they glowed like this was when we fought the Calamity", Kate said, "I think my hunch was right about this",

"Whether or not this is apart of the calamity, we'll find out soon", Zelda said as the three entered the ruins where there were many pillars with carvings from an ancient civilization, the Zonai; moving further within another room, a giant mural was on the wall but the rest was covered with rubble; moving forward, the three soon came across what appeared to be a mummified corpse with a glowing arm attached to its chest, light emitting from the arm; the arm fell off and a stone fell from it, Zelda knelt down, touching the stone before grabbing it to observe it, a golden glow emitting from it; the mummy began to twitch until its head tilted upwards, it's head moving towards the three, it's eyes appearing as gloom-like malice spewed out of it; before it could touch Zelda, Link jumped in the way, deflecting it until it shot at him, enveloping around the swords and his arm, Link let out a pained scream as it then retreated, he fell to his knees, holding his injured arm as the gloom attacked once again, Kate swung her sword... only for it to shatter into pieces, a small piece cutting the mummy's cheek, everyone staring in shock at what happened.

"Link, Kate", Zelda called out.

"I'm fine... I'm fine", Link mumbled, standing up.

"Was that a sword that seals the darkness, a blade that shatters so easily against my power cannot save you from me", the mummy stated, rising up into a standing position, "Zelda... you two, who carry those fragile swords... are Link and Kate, Rauru placed his faith in you both... and that was all you could do",

"How do you... know our names", Zelda asked, the three staring at the mummy in shock as more gloom came out of him flying skyward, the cave began to shake, parts of it collapsing; the mummy fell into the depths as a piece of the ground Zelda stood on gave weigh.

"ZELDA", Kate shouted, she and Link jumping after her, but she disappeared into light as something grabbed ahold of Link's good arm, the Zonai arm, a bright light washed over the two as they lost consciousness.

(Hours Later)

Links eyes opened, seeing nothing but stone and roots; sitting up, he began looking around the area, there wasn't a soul around the area.

"Kate... Zelda...", Link called out, standing up but all that could be heard was his own echo; he then took notice of his arm, the arm that was on the mummy, the same one that saved them from falling... it was now where his injured arm should've been.
