Three days have passed since the Crux Clash and there's still no news of when it will be leaving, much to Lucius' annoyance. And so to pass the time, Lucius has been doing commissions for the Guild, further boosting his rank.
The two are at Lingju Pass, having just finished another commission.
Paimon: Another one bites the dust! Easy peasy, lemon squeezy!
Lucius: Heh, you didn't even do anything, Paimon.
Paimon: Hey! Don't underestimate the power of Paimon's support! It has helped you on many occasions!
Lucius: Hm, whatever you say.
As the two continue walking, they spot a Millileth soldier standing guard just in front of them.
Soldier: Ah, Traveller!
The soldier notices as he does a salute.
Soldier: I strongly suggest to be on your guard, now is not the time for sightseeing?
Lucius: What's wrong? Did something happen nearby?
Soldier: Yes. As unusual as this may sound, numerous eyewitness reports have confirmed an active Ruin Guard presence in this area, even though this is far beyond their normal area of activity.
Soldier: Sergeant sent someone to find out just where these ancient machines might have come from. It appears that they simply left their ruin and marched off all of a sudden, for no clear reason.
Paimon: So did somebody wake them up?
Soldier: As I say, the reason is still unclear. We have very little intelligence at present. Moreover... The ruin in question is of the especially spooky variety. Strange noises are often heard coming from within... As such, we are not permitted to investigate until the order comes through from headquarters.
Lucius: One can never be too cautious.
Soldier: In any case, the only sensible strategy in the meantime is to increase Millelith patrols. We must not let innocent civilians come to harm.
Paimon: That's a good point... Ruin Guards are probably pretty dangerous for regular folk...
Lucius: Is there any way I can help?
Lucius asks since he knows there's nothing to do later in the day.
Soldier: Wow, uh... I'm very grateful indeed for the offer, but... it just wouldn't be worth the risk.
Paimon: Oh don't worry about that! Lucius here, he beats up Ruin Guards for breakfast.
Lucius: I do know a little self-defence...
Paimon: ("A little is an understatement...")
Soldier: Well, if you're genuinely offering... I did see some Ruin Guard footprints on the hillside, but since then I've been too busy warning passers-by to investigate myself...
Paimon: Footprints, eh? Interesting... We'll take the case!
Soldier: While the Millelith stands guard, evil shall never prevail! On behalf of Millelith, I salute you, Traveler. You have my gratitude. I will rendezvous you once I have finished my patrol.

After following the trail of footprints, Lucius suddenly spots multiple missiles heading towards them.
