The band was in Phoenix, Arizona - Stevie's hometown. It was going to be an important show, things were likely going to get a little emotional too. Lindsey noticed something different about Stevie as soon as they arrived, but maybe that was just the fight they had the night before. He didn't come back, they hadn't said a word to each other since he walked out of her room. It didn't take long for him to realize that he was in the wrong, but he had missed out on every chance to approach her so far.
"So, what happened?" Christine brought it up casually as she sat down with Stevie before the show.
"What do you mean?" Stevie asked, taking a sip from her paper cup filled with white wine.
"Oh, come on." Christine rolled her eyes, tipping her head towards Lindsey. "You were inseparable the last I saw you yesterday. You haven't even looked his way today."
"I'm not apologizing." Stevie shook her head, glancing at Mick in hopes to get his attention for like the tenth time in the last hour. "I didn't do anything wrong."
"Aren't you going to hear him out at least?" The rekindled relationship was not really a secret, but nobody talked about it either.
"He hasn't yet tried talking to me, so..." Stevie shrugged.
Lindsey sat across the room from them. He tried to focus on warming up before the show, but it was getting increasingly harder to do so. He could hear the two women talking and it irritated him that once again Stevie was letting other people in to meddle in their relationship.
"Stevie, can I talk to you? Outside?" Lindsey added, standing up from his seat.
With an exaggerated sigh, Stevie got up on her feet too and followed him out into the hallway. She would have preferred leaving the room with Mick instead, but he was too busy telling one of his road stories to whoever was listening.
"Yes?" Stevie folded her arms over her chest.
"Don't you think that you should be talking to me instead of Christine?" Lindsey asked, mirroring her stance. "I was right there."
"Well, I don't think I should be the one starting that conversation." Stevie shrugged, she saw him visibly tense up. "You've convinced yourself that there's something going on between Jimmy and I-"
"Okay, yes." Lindsey interrupted. "Yes, you're right. That fight last night was my fault. I'm sorry."
Stevie cocked her head to one side, eyebrow raised. "Do you mean that or are you just saying it? I don't need you to apologize for anything if you don't believe that there's something to be apologizing for, Lindsey."
"Why do you insist on always overcomplicating things?" Lindsey sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I said, I was sorry."
"Okay, let's pretend that you are." Stevie nodded. "What about the next time I have to talk to Jimmy? Or any other man on this planet? Are we going to argue every single time? Because I don't want that. I don't need that."
"Stevie, for God's sake-"
"Ten minutes until showtime!" They heard and Stevie turned to walk away.
Lindsey grabbed her by the arm and spun her around, their chests pressed together. "This is not over. We have to talk about this."
"You-" Stevie pointed a finger at him. "Have to figure out if you can trust me or not first." She said and freed herself from his grasp.
