Over a hundred shows later the Tusk tour was finally over. The band had said goodbye to their fans as well as each other, promising to meet again soon. However, two members of Fleetwood Mac did not go their separate ways right away. Lindsey was not ready yet to let go of what he currently had, afraid that he wouldn't be able to get it back. Stevie gladly welcomed him into her home for the next few days, until she absolutely had to rest before the recording of her solo album began. She needed the kind of rest, which included her staying in bed, reading a book, playing her piano and writing, and not the kind where she had Lindsey on top of her for the better part of the day. Not that she didn't enjoy it.
Three days after the tour had ended, Lindsey left Stevie's home to return to his and for a whole week after that she did absolutely nothing. They only spoke on the phone every other night, which Lindsey thought, it let her know, he was still interested, but he was also giving her space.
Then Jimmy called and announced that he was coming to Los Angeles. The exhaustion vanished with that and Stevie went into her closet to drag out boxes of her journals, with her poems in them, which she was going to turn into songs, right after she hung up the phone. She was starting a completely new chapter of her career, which she was extremely excited about, but she was also really nervous. She could fail. There might not be a single person interested in what she had to offer. Maybe she really was successful only thanks to Lindsey's geniusness. And what about Fleetwood Mac? She promised them that nothing was going to change, but she didn't really know that.
Stevie forgot about all of it as soon as she stepped into the studio. She had her girls with her, she had Waddy, who she trusted almost as much as she trusted Lindsey. Jimmy was there by her side as well, who seemed to have grasped the idea of what she wanted her first album to be perfectly.
The first couple of days flew by and Stevie didn't want the day off she had at all. You need to rest your voice, Jimmy told her. So if she was unable to work, she would spend time with Lindsey instead. So far, he'd been very understanding and she appreciated that. The phone calls were still regular, but they hadn't seen each other in nearly two weeks. She was excited to finally be with him.
"Hello?"
"Hey." Stevie spoke up, when Lindsey answered her call.
"Oh, hey!" He sounded pleasantly surprised, they usually talked much later at night. "What's up?"
"I've missed you." She smiled to herself, feeling as if she was talking to her first boyfriend when she was about 15-years-old. "I thought, maybe we could see each other tonight?"
"I've missed you, too. I'd love that. What do you have in mind?"
"Well, I was thinking, I could come over to your place. Change of scenery." She added jokingly. "We could have dinner and some wine, and you could take me to bed after that."
"Oh, uh-" Lindsey gulped. "M-my house is a mess. You definitely don't want to come here." He laughed nervously.
Stevie frowned, thinking, how weird he sounded all of a sudden. "I'm not coming over to inspect your house, Linds."
"No, I know. Why don't we make this a proper date instead? Go to some fancy restaurant." Lindsey suggested. "I'll dress up nicely, come pick you up. I'll even bring you flowers!"
"Well, alright." Stevie replied, having an uneasy feeling. "If that's what you want." In all the years she had known him, he had never voluntarily offered to go out. "So, what time should I be expecting you?"
"7? Sounds good?"
"Sure." Stevie agreed, though, the level of her excitement had definitely lowered. "See you then. I love you."
"Yeah, you too."
Stevie stared at the phone after Lindsey had hung up. Yeah, you too? What the hell was that?
