It has been exactly a week to the day since I started working at Scoops Ahoy, yet there has also been no word about my transcripts yet. This leaves me furious, Steve notices this as soon as I walk in for my shift. He is still technically training me, but today is also my first day where I can be really hands on, and he will hop in to help if I need it. I paste on a fake smile before exiting the door from the back to make my way behind the counter, “Hey Steve.”, I manage to say in a happy tone towards him, I am by no means angry at him in any way, and seeing him does brighten my day a bit. Our shifts have allowed us to talk a lot to one another and get to know one another a bit more as well.

He gives me a small smile upon seeing me, “Hey Y/n, everything okay? You looked a little pissed coming in today?”, he asks me. I haven’t told him about the transcript fiasco currently going on so I lie, “Yeah, yeah, just some asshole drivers thought they could cut me off in the parking lot.”, I tell him. “I’m sorry, it happens a lot, hopefully it doesn’t happen once the hype of Starcourt wears off.”, he suggests. His thoughts on this actually makes me smile, he is a bit of an odd one, but he is sweet and caring. And after getting to know him more, I can now justify my crush on the young man, he is no longer a ‘guy’ I just met and got all googly eyed for.

Today is Robin’s day off from work, yet she makes a special trip to check in on me, “Great news Y/n, Dad just got a call and they should be in next week for sure.”, she tells me with a big grin. Steve raises a brow at her words, confused by the whole conversation, I can’t help but giggle slightly at his confusion, “My transcripts from Colorado, they have been dragging their ass about sending to Hawkins High, maybe, just maybe I won’t have to repeat my senior year again.”, I explain. We all chat for a moment before Robin leaves to go do some shopping, “How come she is always so smiley around you? She nevers smiles that much here.”, Steve comments.

I just shrug, “No clue, Robin and I have been close for years, ever since we were kids. She is reserved mostly, she has always been like that. She isn’t only my cousin, she is also my best friend.”, I gush with a big smile, this makes Steve smile back in response. Steve and I chat throughout the shift more about where I am from and childhood experiences since the shift was mostly quiet. I laugh hard when Steve explains how he used to crawl as a baby, “Seriously?”, I gasp out, he glares at me slightly in a playful way, “Yes. Up until I took a tumble down the stairs that knocked me on my head.”, he adds with a laugh of his own.

Soon it is closing time, once everything is cleaned and locked up, Steve walks me out to my car. “Hey um..I was wondering if on one of our days off, if you wanted to hang out?”, he asks me, I can tell he is nervous because he runs his hand through his hair quickly. “I know you said you played guitar and granted I am not one for hard music or metal, I would like to hear you play something if that is okay?”, he rambles for a moment, this makes me smile at him sweetly and giggle. “Yeah, I don’t mind. Who knows I may bring you over to the dark side yet Harrington.”, I tease, our tastes in aesthetics and music are polar opposites, yet here he is showing an interest in what I am into.

He chuckles softly, “Maybe, who knows. Anyways, awesome.”, he states as he leans in the driver’s side window once I am in the car. “Good night Steve.”, I tell him with yet another one of my signature smiles, this time I do notice the small blush that crosses over his cheeks. “Night Y/n, be careful.”, he tells me before leaving my window. I let out a deep breath I didn’t even realize I was holding until I watched him get into his own car, his face had been so close to mine that I nearly got lost into his beautiful brown eyes. My face feels warm the entire ride home,

“What has got you all giddy?”, Robin asks me once she catches me smiling like an idiot once I come through the front door. “Steve.”, is all I can say, she chuckles softly, “Jesus Christ Y/n, you really do got it bad for Harrington.”, she teases. I roll my eyes at her, “He asked me to hang out, he is odd, but he is sweet Robin. I think I may have a shot here.”, I confide to her. “I say go for it, you never know until you try.”, she says before leaving me to think. She is right, I won’t know if I truly have a shot with Steve until I try, this leaves me happy and light as I go to bed for the night.
