Aftereffects

Order

Walking out of the bathroom I notice Jake at the desk looking at his laptop lost in his own world. Smiling, I lean on the door frame watching him look from his laptop to the scanner. I chuckled wondering if this is how he had looked all those times while looking for Hannah. And I knew the answer was yes. I hear him mumble something causing me to grin as I walk up beside him

" What's wrong?" He jumps quickly looking up at me as if just remembering he wasn't alone. I smile down at him

" Welcome back" I tease seeing a small smile appear  on his lips and my heart skips. I still couldn't believe that he was here or how handsome Jake truly was. I would be lying if I said I hadn't imagined what he had looked like all those times we spoke but seeing him now. I reach out, touching Jake's cheek, running my fingertips along his jaw watching his eyes close as he leaned into my touch. He exhales as if he had been holding this breath for years. Feeling his shoulders slightly relax I smile rubbing my thumb on his cheek

" I'm going to go grab us something to eat" his eyes open as a slight frown appears on his brow. I lean down more

" Jake you need to eat" I see the dark circles under his eyes

" And get some sleep" he arches his brow causing me to smile

" I'll be careful" he stares at me as if trying to find the right words. I kiss his cheek

" Trust me" he looks at my lips then into my eyes

" I trust you Samantha more than anyone" I blush as he calls me by my full name.

" And I trust you" he nods as I lean my forehead against his cheek

" Stay alert" I nod standing up throwing on my hoodie as my jacket is put on my shoulders I smile looking over at Jake

" Thank you" he nods and I swear I can feel the heat between us. But then Jake moves away and my heart sinks as he steps back. I turn away hiding my disappointment.

" I'll be quick" I put my hood on and closed the door behind me. I look down at my feet. Maybe it was just me feeling the strong connection between us. I sigh heading towards the little diner I stop realizing I hadn't asked Jake what he wants then my phone vibrates I quickly look at it

A burger and fries will suffice for tonight

I smile at his message then it vibrates again

I put money in your jacket pocket

I check my pocket and pull out the money I chuckle shaking my head

Okay I'll make sure to get two seperate orders. Is there anything else you want?

I hit send just as I open the diner door my phone goes off I look down.

I am paying for your meal as well

I blush imagining Jake with a serious expression. Causing me to grin

No use arguing right?

I wait behind a man ordering I look down seeing another message

No there isn't :)

I feel my heart flutter as I smile walking up and place our order.
