"I've waited a long time for this." "You have?" "I need to know if this works. A soul fission." "I have no idea what you're talking about, Az. You sound like you know what you're talking about though. And that worries me." "You shouldn't be. Now, give me just a moment." I begin to utter the tale of Gwyn and the splitting of his soul. "Wait, you said that was just a story! It couldn't possibly work!" I finish my tale in a few minutes and a light erupts from my chest. Two lights of equal size arrive in the palms of my hands. "This, my friend, is soul fission. The act of splitting the power of a soul into pieces. I'm glad that it went as smoothly as it did. "Az... You really don't have to... I know I was supposed to die..." "Take one. It will sustain you." "But Az..." "Please. If not for me, do it for Chara." "I... I will." Asriel would grasp the soul in my right hand and take it into his chest. "I feel... whole." I wait for the timeline to reset, for the world to crumble before me. "Az, is something wrong?" "I... I'm fine. I was expecting something to happen, but thankfully it didn't." "What do you... Never mind. I feel great! Better than ever!" "Good to hear, Asriel." I take the other half of my soul and return it to myself. "Let's go tell the others. They must have waited far too long for you to return." "But they think I'm dead. What will I tell them, that you're a necromancer?" "Tell the truth. That's probably for the best." "All right. Here's to whatever comes next!" "To whatever comes next." It was a much shorter walk back to the barrier as all of the monsters had gathered there. Asriel took their time getting there, but I stayed with him. It was quite the triumphant walk back, that is, until we finally met up with the others. It was quite chaotic, to say the least. Toriel, upon seeing the goat child, had the look of disbelief on their face. "Asriel... You're... Alive?" This took the attention of all the others. They had the occasional "Asriel?" and "The prince?" Toriel slowly walked over to him and laid a gentle hand on his head. "I don't believe it. I never expected this to happen. Azatiel? What did you do?" "I gave a part of my soul. He has a part of me now." "But that's impossible. Souls can not be split. At least, that's what I know." "It is possible. That is for certain." "I see that, but I don't believe it." Asgore rushes over and gives his son a bear hug. "By the divine! I didn't think I'd see you again!" "Dad... I know what happened but... It kind of hurts..." "Oh, uh, sorry sport." Asriel is placed on the ground gently. "Asgore!" Toriel shouted. "Don't you touch him!" She said, stealing Asriel away. "Wait, what did I miss? Mom? Dad?" "Well, um..." They both say in sync. "It's complicated." "You got that right." I say. "Why don't we head outside? Since that's what we were doing in the first place." In unanimous agreement, everyone exits through where the barrier was onto the precipice. Most head on, except for a few of us.
