As they entered, the shopping assistant eyed them as he packed some wrapping away. "Good evening, what brings you children in here so late?"
"Late night shopping." Draco smiled hesitantly as he quickly walked on with Y/n to the first isle he saw. It was a really narrow isle, in fact, all of them were. The bookstore itself was packed with piles of books that fit no where.
He walked down to the end of the isle. He saw Y/n already looking on the shelves for 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'.
He went to the next isle over to start looking, though, he wasn't very fast as Y/n had now come to his isle to search.
"It's very spacious." She joked.
He didn't answer and kept looking at the shelf in front of him.
"Oh!— you're so cute." He heard her say.
"Thanks?" He muttered back to the book in front of him. But when he turned to his left she was crouched down on the floor petting a big ginger cat.
She pet the cat affectionately and it purred just as well in response.
"He's adorable isn't he Malfoy?" She asked him as she craned her neck up to look at him. It was more like a demand though.
He bent down beside her to make it easier on her. "He's a bit fat isn't he?" Draco reached out to pet him but his hand was slapped away.
"Malfoy, be nice." She demanded quietly.
"He can't even understand us, for all we know." He responded.
She shot him a small glare before she looked back to the ginger cat and kept on whispering to it affectionately.
"Stop babying it."
"But he's adorable." She whispered as she continued to pet him. "I've always wanted a pet cat."
He tried keeping his mouth shut. He firmly put his lips together.
Usually a comment like that invited someone to ask about their life, and say, 'well, why don't you have a pet cat?' Which frankly, was not Draco's favourite thing.
"Why don't you have a pet cat?"
He tried to hide a small grimace. He clenched his teeth as he tried forming a somewhat normal look.
She turned her head to look at him for the first time in a while as all her attention had been on the fat ginger cat.
"I don't think I'd be a very good owner."
He scoffed, and she smiled. They held each others eyes for a few moments.
"My parents always used to say that." Her smile faded as she looked away back to the cat and continued rubbing its belly. He was taken back a little, the smile on his lips fading also.
He tried reaching out his hand to pet it and she let him this time. His fingers carefully scratched its head and the cat had closed its eyes as it made noises of approval. His fingertips had grazed hers but only briefly.
He couldn't help but smile a little as he pet the cat and watched it. His fingers had moved down to its belly to give it an affectionate rub, until he noticed he was the only one petting it now. He looked to his left and Y/n had stopped petting it, and was only staring at his hand as he pet the cat.
He quickly looked away and coughed quietly. He stood up and she did too.
"'A Midsummer Night's Dream'—"
"—Yes." She agreed quickly, turning away to start looking at new shelves and books.
Y/n had found it quickly.
"It wasn't in the literature section, it was in the Muggle section." She informed as they strolled down the path together. He was on her left. The brown bag swayed in her hand.
"You didn't have to pay."
She eyed him. "Well, with my new found wealth paying for it was easier."
He smirked a little as he looked away, down at the path as they walked slowly.
"Are you hungry?" He found himself asking her aloud. She slowly stopped walking and he copied.
He looked around and a place had caught his eye across the street. "Pizza?" He asked quietly, almost like he had lost his voice. She looked over his shoulder at the place and then looked back to him. She nodded and a small smile had formed. They crossed the street together and it was almost deserted.
They reached the small shop and had gone inside, sitting in a dimly lit corner in a small booth. This shop, like the library was cramped, and small, but it was comfortable.
A waitress had come over, looking very irritated and bothered as she chewed her chewing gum.
"You do know we close in 20 minutes, right?" She looked from Y/n to Draco, and she had visibly paled at the sight of him. She didn't refrain from giving him a sassy look from head to toe. He only swallowed and looked away, rolling down the sleeve of his blue sweater under the table.
"It's a good thing I can eat in 10. May I have a menu please?" Y/n smiled. Draco only looked at her curiously from across the small table.
"We only have one pizza available."
"Then I'll have that. Thanks." She smiled again. The waitress had rolled her eyes when she turned away and walked off.
"Some people really hate their jobs." She muttered as she leaned back comfortably in her seat. Her legs and his legs were touching, but only because the space was so small, and they accepted it.
From time to time, Y/n would hit his foot playfully.
He never answered and looked away. They stayed like that for two minutes until the pizza came, quite quickly.
The waitress gave Y/n one last look before she walked off into a back room. Now they were truly alone.
She smiled as she looked down at the pizza but then grimaced.
"This pizza has olives."
"So?" Draco said as he took a piece and ate it.
Y/n only muttered in disapproval as she started picking the olives off the pizza. Draco looked at her with an eyebrow slightly raised as she struggled. He leaned over a little and helped her. She retracted her hand as he did. As he picked the olives he ate them.
She looked at him with slightly widened eyes as he did. He finished picking off olives from three pieces of pizza.
"Thank you." She hesitated quietly before she grabbed her slice and started eating it. He didn't reply, and only looked at her from time to time to check if she was satisfied.
