"Make sure you put on a smile, babe. We are going to a gala after all." Jake says.
I hurry away, I go to the guest room and dress Maya up. She'll be wearing a baby pink dress with pink shoes. I leave her hair in it's naturally curly way.
I put on a sage green silk dress. It's a little revealing so I'm thinking about changing. That all goes into the trash when Jake yells from downstairs.
I quickly pick Maya up and get into the driver seat after buckling her in. On the way there we have to listen to Jake's awful music.
"What's this event again?" Jake speaks.
"We get awarded for things and also make some money that we donate either to a hospital or an orphanage."
I scratch my fingers anxiously. I look at Maya in the mirror only to see her just as afraid as me.
I send her a smile and she musters up one too. Sighing I think about the house I found today. It's perfect, doesn't cost too much and also very pretty.
The only issue is that it's far from here. That means either me or Ares would have to travel quite a lot to see Maya.
And I don't want to take away his daughter.
"I said smile. Not look out of your head and not respond like an idiot." Jake snaps at me.
I mumble a quick apology and begin picking my nails again.
Soon we arrive and with a tight grip Jake grabs my arm while I hold my daughter in the other one.
We go inside and I greet some of the guests I know.
A genuine smile breaks out on my face when I see my mother. She notices me too and starts walking towards us.
Her smile fades away when she sees the man beside man.
"Delilah! I missed you two so much." Mom gives me and Maya a kiss on the cheek and ignores Jake completely.
"Granny! Granny!" Maya jumps out of my arms into my mother's. I'm happy she did because this way she's away from Jake.
"It'd be nice if you introduced me, babe." Jake speaks with a fake smile on his face. Mom turns to him and scoffs.
Maya gasps and starts trashing in her grandma's hold. I look over her shoulder and understand immediately.
Ares
He sees us and comes towards us. His face gentle when he's looking at his daughter, but then it goes blank when he sees Jake.
Oh dear lord
Maya finally gets free and runs up to him. Jake watches the interaction carefully. Aresius picks her up and kisses her all over her face while she lets out little giggles.
