I wake up and as I look around I see I'm not in my room at Jake's. I start to panic more when the door opens, but my heart unintentionally slows down at the sight of Ares.
He's carrying a tray filled with food and suddenly I become hungry. "Good morning. I hope I didn't wake you."
I shake my head. "I need to get up anyways." He puts the food in front of me and hands me a cup of coffee. I thank him and take a sip. I also try and not linger on the fact that he still knows how I like it.
"Is Maya up?"
"Yeah, we both woke up at the same time to make mommy some breakfast." I avoid looking him in the eyes since there's an emotion that I'm not ready to see.
I clear my throat. "Well, I better get going or else I'll be late." I get up and grab my bag, deciding that I'll freshen up at home.
We walk downstairs and see Maya watching Tv while Mase sits next to her. I see Ares glare at him and I send him a pointed look and he stops immediately.
"Maya, mama is leaving. You want to come and say goodbye?" She nods happily and runs up to me.
I crouch down and she starts giving me the best hugs and squeeze in the whole world. I plaster her face with kisses and her sweet giggles fill the room.
I look over her shoulder only to see her father looking at us with such a tender look.
I get up and pet Mase then start walking to the door. Before I could open it a hand grabs my wrist and turns me around. I don't have time before I feel soft lips being pressed against my forehead.
"He says something disrespectful you punch or kick him in the groin, okay?"
I nod, but also let out a soft chuckle. I look him in the eyes and a feeling takes over me that wants me to lean in and kiss his forehead, just like he did to me.
I snap out of that just as fast as it came and turn around.
"Mama loves you, Maya. I'll see you in a few days until then stay good for papa, yes?"
"Love mama."
My heart melts and I leave. I call a cab and quickly arrive back to Jake's. I give the driver all my money, which is not much, and sprint upstairs to get ready.
I don't plan on dressing up too much since I honestly do not care if they like me or not. So I put a simple black dress on and some black heels after showering and brushing my teeth.
I put my curly hair into a ponytail even though I like it much better when it's not tied up, but Jake thinks it's ugly.
I also apply a little makeup especially to the bruises on my arms. I take my bag just as the front door opens and slams shut. I don't even flinch at this point.
I hear rushed footsteps coming up on the stairs then my door bursts open. Jake steps inside and looks at me with hatred in his eyes.
"Where were you yesterday? You know what? Don't even answer. You were probably out whoring around." He snaps.
"It's non of your business where I were." I snap back without thinking.
His eyes widen a little at this and is about to say something when his phone pings. He checks it almost immediately, like he knows who it's from and smiles at the screen.
Suddenly he remembers he has company and the smile is wiped off of his face. "Let's go. We're already late."
I get in the car and he starts the engine, also putting on his awful music. It's about a fifteen minutes drive so when we get there and get out of the car I quickly get my phone out and share my location with Aresius.
Just in case.
He walks through the front door, not even knocking. An older women is sitting on the couch watching some kind of Tv show with someone I don't expect.
Angela
Jake goes up to her and gives her a hug and a kiss on the cheek. How ironic if I did that to any of my male friends I'd end up with broken ribs and a black eye.
Speaking from experience.
She sees me and sends me a disgusted look. "Couldn't you have dressed up for once in something nice?"
I was about to snap at her. Jake cuts in. "Believe me Angie, it wouldn't help anything." They start snickering like fucking kids.
His mother looks me up and down then averts her gaze.
Now I see where he got it from.
"Hey, mom. When's lunch?"
"The delivery should be here any minute."
I don't have any right to judge her, maybe she's having a hard day and just didn't have energy to cook. I also blame her lack of kindness on it and decide to introduce myself.
"It's nice to meet you Ms Lockwood, I'm Delilah." I extend a hand to her and she looks at it.
"Where's that child of yours. I'm sure I was clear about wanting to meet my grandchild." She ignores my hand.
"With all due respect miss, Maya isn't here and we're not at that stage with Jake to call him a dad to my daughter. In fact that stage will never happen since she has a dad who is fully involved in her life."
She did not like that.
"You are dating my son, there is no place for another male in your life and that child should not have her parents separated and as far as I know she's still too little to remember anything when she'll be all grown up. So it's not too late to start addressing Jakey as her dad."
Yeah, absolutely no.
I open my mouth to put her in her place, but the doorbell interrupts me again. Jake looks at his mom who looks just as confused. He goes and opens the door.
My jaw drops when I see Ares with Maya in his arms.
They wave at me, Maya excitedly and Ares has a smug look.
"Hi mama." He says all the while looking into my eyes.
