 SARAH

"Fuck, fuck, fuck," please pick up.

The phone rings non-stop, the stupid tone ending with an automated voice recording. "Hi, you've reached Becky, uh-" I hang up and dial again.

This can't be, I would have known. She can't be dead. Frustrated, I throw my phone on the ground. Birds hiding in the trees jump out and fly out into the morning sky.

Damn it, I knew something was wrong. I did not want to be right, the pressure in my core builds.

A sob leaves my throat as my body falls to the ground. Pain stuns me and my arm goes numb. I can't believe it, I won't. There has to be a good explanation for this. It can not be her.

No, no, no, it can not be this. What did he do? What did my brother do? Soran's face imprints itself in my mind, the guy Carter and I saw at the shed. It makes sense, they had to be working together. Why she brought me here, was the first time I had a suspicion that she was seeing my brother.

I gasp, "the letter!" Soran wrote the letter about Becky. It is all making sense now...

I need to call, Carter. Picking up my phone from the frozen ground, I see it isn't damaged.

Scrolling through my contacts, I find his and call him. It keeps ringing and goes to voicemail. I try again and this time it rings twice and goes to voicemail. "Come on, Carter," I call him one last time.

On the fourth ring he picks up, "I can't talk to you, right now."

"OMG, Carter, I figured it out." I tell him, "the letter was written about Becky."

I hear shuffling in the background, "what?"

"Soran wrote the letter about Becky, he killed her!" I quickly grab my things and start to speed walk back to my house. "What letter? How do you know that?" he sounds suspicious.

Huffing out, "Becky was the spirit in my room, the one I was trying to communicate with."

"When was that?" he asks. Forgetting about my steps, "fuck."I tripped, "baby, are you okay?"

"Yeah, look I need to meet you at my house." I can see the tree line and path to my house.

I get back up supporting my arm, a hot shot of pain crosses my arm. I think it is broken.

"Wait, when did you see another spirit? You told me you would be honest with me," I scoff, "remember when you got mad at me and ran off." Silence reaches his lips, "whatever Carter, just meet me at my house."

"Babe, I haven't seen you since yesterday morning before you went to work." Is he stupid?

"No, a few hours ago you came into my room and gave me the letter," I stop in my tracks.

"We got into a fight and you stormed off," I remind him. "Honey-" I was stopped by a cracking sound behind me, "I have to go."

"Wait-" I hung up.

Scorned trees pile high above me dropping snow onto the ground.

I'll seek you out...

Find out all about you...

'One more word from your tainted lips and you won't survive...

The presence of an unholy power strikes behind me. I feel the surge of heat rise over my skin, making me feel like I am melting.
