Chapter 52

Kevin's POV

"Look! Look Kevin! My flamechasers plan got approved!" Elysia waved a paper on my face and I took it from her.

"Hm? I thought MEI said the higher ups won't approve of this." I looked through the paper.

"They did, the first time atleast. Maybe they finally fell to my charms and gave in?~"

As Raum says, the higher ups, apart from MEI are only interested in what power they possess rather than the better of humanity. And this plan has elements which might undermine their position. So why?

Speaking of whom-

"There's no mention of Raum in here. And there's no way you excluded him on purpose."

Her expression became clouded.

"He...refused to be part of this." She didn't say anything more.

Elysia is the kind of person to force someone to be part of her plans, even without their permission. For her to be like this..

So I will have to find out myself.

"I see." I returned the paper to her and left the room by myself silently as she stood there rooted to the ground.

"You were here, as expected." The breeze blowed calmly past me.

Raum always liked the rooftops. He used to say the sky is most visible and clear from here.

He's been more frequent here more recently.

He was leaning on the railing. Giving me a brief glance he looked back up.

"It's you, Kevin."

I walked upto him and leaned on the railing.

"Where you expecting Elysia?"

"She usually comes and bugs me. So yeah."

"......."

"......."

"What did you do, Raum? There's no way Elysia's plan was accepted that easily."

"Why do you think I did something? Maybe those stubborn idiots liked the plan and accepted it?"

"...." I stared silently at him.

The wind blew past playing with his back hair streaked with white, as he coughed.

"I offered myself on a silver platter to them on the condition that they accept the plan."

My eyes widened.

"I am to be their scapegoat in case, the flamechasers go beyond their boundaries."

"You..." I couldn't find any words to tell. He said all this calmly.

"Don't look so worried, Kevin. It's not that bad and...there's not a lot of us left. Elysia made this plan with that in mind and I couldn't let her plan be rejected like that."

"Does she know this?"

"Obviously no."

He coughed violently and spit out blood. He took out his handkerchief and wiped his mouth. I noticed that the more of his hair had become white.
