Mei's POV
"We're almost there." I encouraged him as he walked.
"Give me a break, Mei. It's been too long since I've climbed this mountain again." Dad said as he wiped his sweat again with the partially drenched towel.
"I'm not as young as I was last time." He said as he sighed.
"Just yesterday, you were arguing with Siegfried-san about not being that old yet and now..." I giggled.
"T-That was different. That shi-ahem, was calling me old while sporting numerous wrinkles, more than mine. I really wish his daughters would set him right one day."
I giggled again at his rare pouty face.
I handed him the water bottle and he took a sip and handed it back to me.
I slipped the bottle in the bottle holder and looked up again.
It's not visible yet but I can see traces of pink as the wind blew. The air carried a sweet and calming scent and the sun was almost setting.
Finally, after a minute or two of trekking, we reached our spot.
The Sakura blossoms danced with the wind, giving the air a sweet scent and the gathering of Sakura petals below the trees gave it a peaceful feel.
The soothing Sakura trees seems to take away all my worries. When I looked at my dad, I could he too thought the same as me.
I'm glad that I decided to come here.
I was a bit skeptical at first to take a vacation. But....when the principal and Silvia insisted....I couldn't say no.
Especially when Silvia's eyes resembled so much like..his that I automatically agreed.
"....." I looked at the setting sun.
Had I...
"Mei?" My dad's voice woke me up before I could revel in my day dream again.
"Sorry dad. What were you saying?"
My dad smiled warmly at me.
"Thinking about someone?"
"......." I nodded gently.
We sat in peaceful silence for a few moments, enjoying the scenery.
"Do you remember? When you were younger, you used to wait for the Sakura to bloom and always complained about it taking too long." He laughed.
"I would rather not have remembered that." I said embarrassed but he continued laughing.
"You're right. My daughter is all grown and even helped save the world." He said with pride and a little nostalgia.
"I....." he began but hesitated and clenched his hand as if remembering something unpleasant.
Seeing his hesitation, I took his hand and gently held it. He looked surprised for a second but his expression held warmth.
"Ever since I was taken away without even being able to contact or let alone see you. I was worried. I was worried about how you lonely you would be, how the other students would treat you. You have always been kind and gentle and I was worried if that incident would wound your heart. If it would break you apart." He trembled.
"I couldn't bear it. For a long time, I sat there worrying till one day instead of my jailer, a young girl with golden eyes saved me, saving that her father had tasked her with helping me."
"I escaped there with her and tried to search for you. But when I found you, you were with Schiksal and I wasn't allowed to anywhere near them and I-" he stopped, and looked distressed.
"Dad, I'm alright now.." I wondered for a way to ease his worries.
"That's right....You've grown up now.." he smiled wistfully.
"How about I tell you all I've seen?" I said.
He nodded intently.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
He placed his gently on my head and gently stroked it.
"So that's how it is. You've been through a lot." He said kindly.
"So this....Kotaro. Was he the one you were about to mention back at the dinner before I was taken?"
"......." I embarrassedly nodded.
"I see...I wish I could have met him."
I wish so too. I'm sure Kotaro would have gotten along with dad very well.
But.....It's just wishful thinking now.
We looked at the sunset as the lights around the trees lit up, giving it a ethereal look.
He continued smiling as he stood up and dug into his heavy bag.
He took out a large wooden box and laid it out in front of me.
"I almost forgot but here you go. Happy birthday Mei.." he said smiling.
"Eh..?"
I had genuinely forgotten.
I slowly opened the wooden box to find a beautifully crafted katana, which looked well preserved in the box.
"I wanted to give you this very long time ago but wasn't able to. So there's no time like the present."
"I....Thank you, Dad."
Seeing as the sun had set, we stayed for a short while longer, as I collected the fresh blossoms to make salted Sakura for everyone.
I was in a blissful mood as we left the mountain.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Back in my room, I examined the necklace.
It had cracks in the gem after the last fight and I had to take it away to repair but surprisingly it was not able to be repaired.
I was given the option to replace it but....
No. I can't do that.
I carefully placed it in a cozy box.
Until I find someone who can fix it, it will be secure in this box.
I gave the box a tap and placed it in my bag.
I slowly crept up the bed and slept to the warm comfort of the bed.

The red eyed woman struggled under the grip on her neck.
"W-Who the hell.....*cough* are you?!" She managed to say.
No reply was given.
