1:10am
My emerged from the chilling aroma of E deck up to D deck and we immediately spotted a crowd of people forming around the stairwell. Joel and I tried and push our way through the sea of people but they push us back with the force of a tsunami. I fell right into Joel's arms that were cool to the touch."What is happening?" I was only 5'2 and most of the men in the crowd were over 6ft. However, Joel stood on his tiptoes and managed to peer over the top of the abundance of heads. When he returned to my level, the colour drained from his face.
"They have. Locked the gate. They can't get out." Joel said.
I gasped. It was utterly inhumane! We tried once again to push past the crowd of people and we managed to get near the front.
"Women and children only!" The voice of the staff monitoring the gate cried.
Women and children filtered through the gate and the man's eyes focused on me.
"Lassie! What are you doing down their. You are a first class woman if I've ever seen one." His annoying, Scottish voice prodded me like James when we get ready for a party.
"Why don't you let everyone out?" I stared at the man with desperation and he shook his head.
"Go Isobel. I'll find a way out." Joel said in a hoarse voice. He tried to lead me towards the little gap in the gate the people had made but I fought.
"No,Joel! I'm not leaving you!" My emerald eyes twinkled with frustration as the staff started to tug on my dress and managed to drag me out of the crowd of people. I curled my fingers around the brass gates trying frantically to pull the gate. I just wasn't strong enough.
"Go get into a boat lassie." The man said.
I was fiery with anger, despite the cool aroma that crept up to D deck second by second. Scoffing, I folded my arms and scowled hard enough to frighten the devil.
"You are Satan." I stormed off, searching for a weapon of some sort. I wasn't going to stand for this. I managed to find a discarded crowbar conveniently in the doorway to a room. I returned with the crowbar and a furious attitude.
"OPEN THE GATE NOW! OR HE GETS IT." I held the crow bar up to the man's head who managed to pull me free and he genuinely looked frightened.
"Isobel!" I heard Joel's voice call with delight. At least someone was happy I was standing up for myself.
"Woah! Calm down there. I'm afraid we can't do that." Another staff member said. I exhaled through my nose like an angry bull.
"Oh alright." I said in a convincing voice while dropping my arm. "Well YOU get it then!" I unleashed my power and straight up bonked the man on the forehead. He groaned with pain and tumbled to the floor in a heap.
"I am Satan? YOU are Satan." The man snatched the crow bar from my infuriated grasp and threw it to the ground with a clang.
"Let them go. You can't cage them up like.. animals! It's inhumane." I said, loosing my breath slowly. The man unlocked the gate but crammed me back in.
"You are evil!" Cried a voice.
"Let us out!" Cried another.
"She was only trying to help." Another one said.
Murmurs of displeased voices drowned out as I saw Joel again. His eyes locked with mine as he smirked cheekily.
"I knew you'd do that." He chuckled, not breaking eye contact.
"Oh yes? Is that why you sent me up? To fight them for you?"
"Hmm. That wasn't my original plan but there's always a plan B. Kian!" Joel turned around to see Kian perched over on a bench, wallowing in self pity.
"What? No one wants to buy my Rolexs. And now we might die so that's just great." He sighed, completely giving up.
"Stop throwing yourself a pity party, Kian. Help me break out this place." Joel, with his strong muscular arms, started to tug and heave on the bench that was thoroughly attached to the wall. Kian was reluctant at first but eventually helped when others joined in. I simply watched, watching their plan unfold as their clever minds hatched away at their escape plan.
"Everyone clear the path. You too, Isobel." I stepped to the side as half a dozen men gripped onto a separate part of the bench.
"Go on 3!"
"1..
2!
..3!"
The group of angry, sweaty men charged forth like gladiators into battle and crashed the durable wooden bench into the gate. After a few thrusts, the gate broke and a flood of people charged through.
"Come on!" Joel grabbed my hand and we excitedly rushed all the way to boat deck.
