The next morning, when Janessa looked in the mirror, there was no visible difference in her scar, as expected, though, to her surprise, she didn't find it bothered her much. Part of her wondered how much of that had to do with her 'training session' with Ro—it was probably better named, 'anger session', on second thought. It felt like her whole body had been waiting for something, tensed as if squeezed in a box two sizes too small, and then it had all been let out. Janessa wasn't naive enough to think that had solved all her problems, but it was certainly a helpful outlet for her emotions.
As she made her way through the apartment, Janessa noticed that, for once, she was awake before Amy and Livvy started their research. She briefly wondered if Keefe would even be awake; he was still technically recovering from his injuries, wasn't he? Although, he had seemed fine briefly breaking his bedrest rule the previous day to watch her training.
As Janessa realized that, remembering suddenly how slowly Keefe had been moving, she decided it was probably better to wait until the afternoon to go see him to make sure he actually followed his rule of bedrest.
Before Amy had even woken up yet, though Livvy had left to pick up some medical supplies, Janessa's Imparter started buzzing, the name Biana Vacker flashing on the screen.
Janessa immediately accepted the call, grinning despite not having woken up fully yet.
"Morning Biana." Janessa said mid-yawn.
"Janessa!! I have so much to tell you! This is some real gossip, and I can't talk to Sophie about it, and you promised me a shopping day, so get your butt over here!" Biana squealed all in one breath.
Janessa could feel her grin widening at her excitement, equally looking forward to spending time with the girl who was easily one of her very best friends. "Do I have to dress up?"
Biana was internally pumping her fist in joy since her other friends — *ahem* Sophie — didn't enjoy that girly stuff. "Nope! We're getting ready together like a classic girls day. Can I do your makeup pleeeaase?" Biana dragged out.
Janessa chuckled, debating in her head. "We'll see when I get there."
"Yes! Ultimate girls' day!" Biana cheered just as Amy walked into the room, rubbing her eyes.
"Huh? Girls' day?"
"Me and Biana are going shopping and gossiping and all that today." Janessa briefly explained while Amy rolled her eyes.
"I know what a girls day is, Janessa. Humans aren't that different when it comes to that." Amy commented, giving Janessa an annoyed look.
"Sorry." Janessa said sheepishly while Amy got a smug look on her face.
"Does that mean you'll be talking about your crush? I'm still waiting for the final answer." Amy added, purposefully loudly enough for Biana to hear.
"WHAT?! WHO IS IT?" Biana demanded, mouth agape.
Janessa gave both girls a deadpanned look. "I'm not arguing this with you again, Amy. We'll talk about it later, Biana."
"Ugh, fine! You better not try to avoid the conversation though!" Biana retorted, pointing a finger at Janessa through the screen.
"Yeah, fine, I won't. See you in a bit, Biana!" Janessa waved, ending the call before Biana could protest.
"Thank you so very much for that, Amy." Janessa gritted out, pursing her lips.
"You're very welcome, dear sister." Amy replied, grinning cheekily, her smile only widening at Janessa's frown. "Now, you better go off for your girls day. Let me know alllll the details."
"Yeah, yeah. I'll see you tonight, you little devil."
Janessa made her way out the door, using the Pathfinder Livvy had said she could borrow, with instructions on which facet to use, and made her way through the city to the 'Bubble Maker', as she called it.
After her freefall, which she was not too fond of, she light leaped directly in front of the Vacker's mansion, Everglen's glowing gates before her.
Biana was already there, and the gates opened and closed behind her within the minute.
"Sooo.... crush?" Biana teased.
Janessa huffed. "Your gossip first, then later we can do mine."
"Fine, fine, you can deflect for now." Biana relented, her keen eyes showing that she would not be backing down for very long. "Anyways, so, you know Fitz and Sophie..."
Janessa rolled her eyes. "Are you talking about their flirtations or did he actually make a move for once?"
Biana grinned, pulling Janessa towards her house excitedly. "He's trying to actually make a move." As she was dragged throughout Everglen, they stopped in what looked like the kitchen, which was much messier than the pristine crystal house she'd seen so far.
"Are you gonna elaborate or am I supposed to know what this means?" Janessa deadpanned, raising an eyebrow at her friend, who squealed in response.
"Fitz spent practically all night cooking custard bursts for Sophie! And he was asking me about whether or not she wants to get her matchmaking lists! He's at her house right now, and he's totally trying to actually make a move!" Biana exclaimed with wild hand motions.
Janessa felt her mouth drop slightly. Matchmaking lists... That means it's serious. "You know, even though I'm not a huge Fitzphie fan, that's actually pretty cute that he baked for her."
"I know right!!" Biana couldn't be happier, and it was more than infectious. "C'mon, let's get dressed while we talk."
Before long, as Biana was picking out their outfits and makeup elixirs for the day, Janessa had become just as invested as Biana was in the relationship.
"Honestly, I'd be so happy if the love square was put to an end, you know?" Janessa then had a realization. "Wait! If they both acknowledge their feelings, they won't be oblivious to liking each other and can flirt in private instead of in front of us!"
Biana laughed out loud at that, while pulling back Janessa's shoulder length ringlets out of her face. "I'm so glad that's your priority instead of their happiness."
"Uh, I don't want to get involved in the drama, thank you very much. The fact that it's a love square is enough that I'm doing my best to be unbiased, but I can't not be happy to not be watching Fitzphie fluff all the time. And the boys wouldn't really be able to compete for her anymore." Janessa explained logically, while Biana was still laughing at her.
"But just think about how cute they would be! They're both so into each other and there's been so much tension between them that it would be the ultimate romance!" Biana emphasized, accidentally pulling Janessa's head this way and that with her hand movements.
It was then Janessa's turn to laugh. She could feel her own happiness mixing with Biana's mirth and love, and she let the familiar, refreshing feeling of the girl's emotions wake her up and hit a new reset.
"I missed you, B." Janessa said, grinning at Biana through the mirror. Biana wrapped her arms around her from behind, temporarily abandoning her hair to give her what felt like maybe the warmest hug she'd ever received.
"I missed you too, J." Biana replied, both of them on the verge of letting their tears fall in their joy. Nothing had felt more natural and clear than the merging of their emotions. In that moment, Janessa was more than grateful she'd manifested as an Empath.
