𝐃𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐎 𝐌𝐀𝐋𝐅𝐎𝐘 once told Serena Wood that she was as transparent as glass. She wore every emotion on her face, and he knew every move she was going to make before she did it.
Despite the witty jibes and occasional hexing threat, Serena has never truly fought back against Draco. Never actually sought revenge against him.
Serena only ever took his insults and pushed him away until he left her alone long enough to get her sanity back. Then he would insult her again, she would insult him back, and the cycle would repeat over and over again.
Even if he pushed her to her limit, he knew deep down that she wouldn't actually do anything malicious to him in retribution. She didn't have the courage to take things further than a mild hex, despite being a courageous, brave Gryffindor.
Until last night.
Last night, Serena Wood decided to officially establish herself as an actual threat, and made a bold move against him to even the playing field of their years-long, ongoing battle.
Draco thought he knew Serena inside and out, but he quickly realised how wrong he was, because he never anticipated for her to actually go out of her way and up the stakes of their game.
What she was doing in his bedroom last night before he came in... Draco couldn't figure out. After she left, he scoped his entire room in search of a possible motive or possible reason for what she was trying to gain by being there, but he was left with nothing— except the feeling of his heart in his stomach and the incident replaying through his mind at a constant rate.
A small part of him was thoroughly impressed with her boldness, with her determination to finally get revenge.
But there was the other part of him... that was absolutely mortified over what went down in his bedroom last night. The incident that shouldn't have ever occurred.
Draco remembered being overcome with pure rage at the sight of a Gryffindor like her standing in his bedroom like she owned the place. He thoroughly recalled pulling out his wand, readying himself to hex her into oblivion so she could pay for whatever it was that she did in there.
But then, his mind just... blanked when he met her irritatingly green eyes, and his heart overtook his brain. All sense of self-control, all self-restraint he had just went out the window.
And the ridiculous words Draco confessed without even realising it... Merlin, did he wish more than anything that he could take it back.
How can one person be so insufferable, yet equally impossible to stay away from?
Every syllable in that sentence, every word that left his mouth in that moment sounded like nails on a chalkboard when he replayed it in his head.
He definitely regretted saying those words to her, but there was nothing he regretted more than what happened afterwards.
They almost kissed.
He almost kissed Serena Wood.
Absolutely no self-discipline whatsoever. He was a complete moron, wasn't he?
Draco leaned in and was seconds away from enveloping her lips in his. As if she was like one of those bloody veelas putting him in a trance, that could only be broken by her calling out his name to stop him from doing what he was about to do.
In his unrestrained, insane mind, Draco thought she wanted him to kiss her— he thought she was leaning in to kiss him as well... but then he realised his mind was just playing tricks on him. The look on her face when he pulled back was nothing short of horrified, and Draco had never felt more embarrassed in his entire life.
