𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐀 𝐃𝐈𝐃𝐍'𝐓 know how it was humanly possible for her emotions to invert as quickly as they did, her ball-of-fury mentality upending into an inundation of shock.
She must still be unconscious, sleeping soundly in her bed. That could be the only plausible reason behind why this morning's events seemed like an insane delusion, between the argument that led to the downfall of her years-long friendship with Flynn, and the sincerity... the intensity of Draco's declaration...
'I can't help that my heart has a mind of its own when I'm around you.'
Serena brought back to mind the sensation of Draco's long fingers trailing the side of her torso, his palm against her chest as he touched the fake necklace she'd lent him mere minutes ago, his deep voice numbing her with that new 'love' nickname she couldn't help but love herself—
Draco admitted that he thought of Serena... constantly thought of Serena. He confessed that she never left his mind, her residence as permanent as tattoo ink on skin.
Draco Malfoy, a person Serena deemed rather incapable of harbouring feelings for anyone other than himself, just wholly acknowledged that she lived in his head as much as he covertly did hers.
And then, Serena stood there as she listened to him, as frozen as an ice sculpture...
And was left in an aphonic state as she watched him quickly retreat, vanishing like a phantom beneath morning's first light.
Why are you still standing up here? Serena half-screamed at herself internally, pressing her limbs to move forward and fucking find Draco. You still have time; he couldn't have gone far. Track him down, find him, confess to him that you feel the same way, tell him that Flynn was right when he told you that you are consumed by Draco Malfoy's existence and absolutely, wholeheartedly obsessed—
Finally, her body began listening to her pleads, and before Serena knew it she was hurrying down the dirty stairs of the tower, kicking up dust with every hasty move she made.
"Wait! Malfoy—" Serena breathlessly rushed out as she threw open the door and ventured toward the Black Lake, pleading to Merlin up above that Draco would still be trailing the grounds nearby, making his whereabouts easy to locate. Her stomach was a whirling mess and her heart a pounding nuisance in her chest.
'Your pulse is racing, love. Reactions speak louder than words.' Malfoy's baritone voice internally taunted her, and Serena wanted to shove him out just as much as she wanted to savor it, hating how the echoic memory made her shudder in response.
Unfortunately, Merlin fell deaf to her beseeching. As Serena scanned the trails near the lake and adjacent, winding corridors, she never caught a glimpse of her Slytherin with that ego as big as Hagrid and those eyes as pretty as the graying skies above her.
