Chapter 3 : Getting Her Bearings

I woke up the next morning in high spirits. Last night I started to make progress on my plan. I enrolled myself in some self defense classes in a nearby town and had somehow managed to buy myself a car online with the money this body's previous owner had saved up for said occasion by babysitting - I planned on babysitting myself since it made for a good excuse if they are wondering where I am while I'm meddling.

I also found an anklet to put vervain in once I got some (I figured it was more conspicuous than wearing a vervain necklace or bracelet).

I got dressed and headed downstairs to talk to Jenna. I figured I should tell her about the car and that I'd be 'working' more so she wouldn't be worried about me.

I've never had to check in with anyone before, but I knew if I wanted to get away with whatever I wanted, they had to think they knew what was going on in my life.

"Hey Jenna!" I called out to her once I saw her.

"Yeah?" She asked with shock in her eyes, surprised that I was talking above a whisper as Marilyn Gilbert normally did. Well...I'm not her, so she'll have to get used to it.

"I bought myself a car since I'm planning on taking on more hours at work, could you take me to pick it up after school?" I asked her, hesitantly.

"Uhm sure." Jenna answered.

"You work?" Elena butted in as she walked into the room, looking confused.

"Yeah, I've been babysitting since I was 11." I informed her quietly.

Elena's eyes drooped in sadness. "Why didn't you tell me?"

Seriously?! She was upset that I didn't tell her I had a part time job?! It's not like she told her real sister anything so why does she expect to be told everything.

I stared straight into Elena's eyes when I answered her. "You never asked Elena. You didn't ask about my life before mom and dad died, and you haven't asked about it after either." Then I spun on my heel and marched out the door, deciding to walk to school that day.
