The Mate

Chapter Forty

Melody looked at the nurse.

The words rang deep in her ears.

Next Alpha.

That meant she was already far enough along to know what she was having. But why wasn't she showing? Or was she and she didn't notice it?

"So-" Melody took a deep breath. She needed to understand what the nurse just said. "There's only one?"

"Yes Luna."

"And I'm having a boy?"

"Yes my Luna."

"But-"

"Some people don't show until they are almost ready to have the baby but if you look here-" she lifted her shirt just a tad and pointed to her stomach. "Right here is just the tiniest little pudge. That's the baby growing beautifully."

"I just thought that I was eating better."

"Nope, well yes and no. That's our next Alpha." the nurse smiled.

"Now, I see why you had to tell me without my mates." she put her hands on her face. "I'm pregnant." she laughed. "I'm actually a little scared though."

"That's natural and completely normal. I can give you some prescriptions for some medicine that you need. I can also go ahead and get the ultrasound set up so you will be able to see the baby. I will step out and go get that and you can tell the Alphas."

"Thank you." Melody told her.

When the nurse walked out Alex and Ethan rushed in the door.

"Are you okay?"

"How do you feel?"

"What did she say?"

"Are you tired?"

"Are you dizzy?"

"Do you feel okay?"

"Guys-" she threw her hands up. "I'm okay, I just have to talk to you."

They sat down on the foot of the bed and grabbed her hands.

She looked at her men. "First of all, I want to tell the both of you that I love you more than anything in this world. I am so proud of how close the three of us are. I didn't think that our life would be this amazing when I first met you, Ethan. You came in pretty strong and extremely heavy with this whole 'you're my mate and I will have you.' It was pretty heavy."

She looked at Alex. "And you, you knew and were going to reject me but when we went on the date that's when I knew I loved you. You were and still are the sweetest man I've ever met."

"Hey, what about me?" Ethan asked.

"No, you're not and that's what I need. That's what I love about you. You two work my nerves, Goddess knows, but I couldn't do this life with you."

"Baby, what is wrong?" Alex asked.

"Yeah, you're scaring me. Is everything okay?" they asked.

"Yes, I just hope you guys are ready for this."

The door opened up and the nurse came back in. She set up the ultrasound machine by the bed.

"I just wanted to let you know that you two are going to be the most amazing daddies."

Neither one of the men said anything. They simply looked at each other.

"What-"

"Daddies?"

"Yes," the nurse said. "Would you like to see the baby?"

They all nodded in excitement.

"This is going to be a three d ultrasound so we will be able to see the baby even better. Did you tell them what the sex is?"

"No."

"I wanna see if I can figure it out first." Alex said.

"Not me, I wanna know now." Ethan laughed.

"Just take a guess. It's a fifty-fifty chance." Melody told them.

"I want a healthy baby." Alex told them as they watched the nurse squirt gel on Melody's stomach and then watched the screen on the monitor change.

"There's the baby." she pointed to the screen. "The baby is about twenty two weeks along. So you don't have much longer. Just about another four months to go. And there you go." She managed to get a picture of the baby's genitalia.

"Boy!" they both said.

"That's my boy." Alex said.

"You wish." Ethan picked. "He's hanging low. That's mine."

"He is ours." Melody told both of them. That ended the argument.

"Look at him." Alex cooed. "I actually think he really is mine." he looked closer to the screen.

"Yeah, I think so." Ethan leaned in. "But wait, that's my nose."

"And my lips." Alex replied.

"I see this a lot in us wolves." the nurse commented. "If there are more than one mate the baby can have both genes. It's very common in wolves."

"So that means?" the men asked.

"It means that the next Alpha is both of yours genetically. This may happen when you have another pup too."

The nurse snapped a few more pictures of the baby then printed them out and handed them to Melody.

"So I've sent the medications to the pharmacy and we will get that taken care of right away."

"What caused this to happen?"

"Too much stimulation can cause this. So, from now on be easy on her. She is carrying an important baby to all of us. Until then you will take care of her."

"You are going to be smothered and you are going to be so tired of us you'll want a vacation."

"I want a vacation now and you haven't even started it." she laughed at them.

"I will leave you guys alone and let you see what it is that you want to do. Congratulations." The nurse stepped out of the room with the equipment.

Ethan and Alex leaned in and kissed Melody. Alex kissed her stomach. He couldn't believe he was about to be a dad. He didn't think it would be so fast. He couldn't think about what he was going to buy the baby first. He didn't know how to tell his parents. He didn't know how to tell himself that he was going to be a dad.He couldn't wrap his head around the fact that he was a dad now.

Ethan watched Alex kiss her stomach. He couldn't understand how this was happening. He knew what caused it, but he couldn't believe that this was real. He knew he had to change everything that he was. He needed to make sure that he was there for his child. He needed to make sure that he wouldn't miss a chance to be with him. He wasn't going to miss anything about his baby boy growing up.

Melody didn't worry about her child being without anything. She knew that her baby would have the most amazing fathers possible. She knew that both of her men would train and teach their baby to the best of their abilities. The only thing that Melody worried about was herself. Was her body going to be able to make it through the labor? Was she going to be a good mother?

"She didn't say when I could get out, did she?" Melody asked.

"No, she didn't."

"That's fine. I am just a little tired. I think I will rest some more." she patted the bed on both sides of her. There wasn't much room for them to both lie with her but they were going to try their hardest to make it work. Anything for their Luna.
