The Mate

Chapter Forty Five

Ethan watched Alex in the shower and couldn't help but admire his body. No wonder Melody loved him. He was incredibly handsome. His muscles moved at every slight twitch. They bulged when he lifted his hands to push through his hair.

Hmm, he needed a haircut and maybe a shave, just like himself. He watched Alex grab the soap and noticed the change in his attitude. He was angry. He was becoming tight in his shoulders. He saw the muscles tighten in his chest. Something was off for sure.

"Alex,"

Alex opened his eyes and looked at Ethan. Ethan pointed to the shower. Nodding, Alex gave him permission to join.

"What the fuck happened?"

"Nothing."

"Stop lying. I'm getting pissed off. Our wife is in a hospital bed and our baby is dead. What the fuck happened?" Alex threw the bottle of shampoo at Ethan.

"Nothing!" he yelled at him.

"Nothing? You really think I'm going to believe you? When I see all the blood on you. What happened Ethan? I need to know."

"Fine." Ethan began washing some of the blood off him. "I killed him."

"Well no shit. That was the whole fucking plan."

"Stop cursing. It's not that big of a deal."

"Yes it is. Must I say it again? Our wife is in the hospital hooked up to machines breathing for her and our baby is-"

"Dead. I know." Ethan leaned against the wall. "He caused it all. A fucking witch was involved. They made her- they made her run away."

"They what?"

"Yeah, they tricked her into running away and they planted that- she fell because of them. Their plan was the baby. They wanted our baby. And well, they got the baby. Because- because they-" Ethan couldn't talk. The tears took over him.

Alex watched as he lost it. He couldn't breathe. He couldn't stand. He couldn't believe that their baby boy was dead. Alex sat down beside Ethan and held him.

"He got what he wanted."

Ethan nodded. "He wanted to break us and he did." Ethan sobbed even more. "He broke me. He wanted her to die years ago and when he couldn't kill her he went after our baby."

Alex sat against the wall with Ethan. "So how?" he wanted to know.

"How what?" Ethan asked, confused.

"How did you kill him and what happened?"

"He wanted to get out of me killing him and he told me everything I just told you and after that I ripped his heart out. I ran all the way here. It was probably eighty miles but I couldn't stop. I had to keep going to see her. I was so scared the whole time. I knew he was telling the truth but I didn't want him to. I- I- I can't believe the baby- the baby is-"

"I know." Alex let the water continue falling on them. "There isn't anything we can do right now except move forward. We have to be there for Mel. We both do and then we will be able to help her. We will have to be there for her because there isn't anything we can do now. And maybe this war is over completely."

"Oh it is. There wasn't a body left. Blood everywhere. Body parts. Oh man, it felt great. It felt amazing ripping the body parts."

"Stop, I'm getting jealous." Alex pushed his shoulder.

"Sorry, I know it's been a while for you. But it did. I forgot what it felt like. Your clan has always been the one that we fought with and your clan was the only clan that gave us any true fight. And now that we've joined there hasn't been anyone. That and the fact that everyone is too scared to even try to come against us."

"Yeah, but I like that for our future children. I think we still train them and give them reason to be feared but keep them humble."

"Yeah, I guess." Ethan leaned into Alex and kissed him. "Thank you, you really are the best."

"You're welcome." Alex kissed him back. "That's why we are here. I love my wife, she is the best person I know and she is the most amazing woman alive. She's been through too much. And now this, we both have to be there for her." Alex stood up. "Let's finish our shower and try to rest."

Just as they were starting to lie down in bed a knock at the door had them both walking to the door. Ethan opened it to see an omega.

"Oh, Alpha," her head bowed and kept it bowed. "Luna has woken up."

"Thank you." Ethan pushed past her and Alex followed.

Running to her hospital room they walked in to see Melody awake and sitting up in bed.

When she saw her husbands' walk in the door she smiled at them.

"Hi," she said weakly to them. Rushing to her sides they grabbed a hand each and just held tight. They fought over who would get to kiss her first. Melody laughed listening to them two argue. "Boys, let's talk about what's really happened. I know about the baby."
