Things were going to have to change and the only way she knew how to fix things was to do it herself. She rubbed a hand over her belly and laid the note down on the bed. She threw the bag on her back and began the climb out of the window. While she was sneaking down the wall, being careful with her belly, her husbands were still in the war room.
"There isn't any chance that this is going to happen."
"It won't not happen." Alex looked at Ethan.
"Then we need to go to the other plan. I think that will be the best." John informed both his son and son in law.
"We will have to make sure that Mel-"
"Alpha," there was an omega that rushed through the door. "I'm sorry," she looked around at all the people in the room and became silent.
"What is it?" Alex asked.
"Melody- she's- she's gone."
"What?" Ethan yelled.
"Where is she?" Aaron asked.
"I don't know, we saw her climbing out the window and we tried-"
"She didn't do it. Please tell me she didn't do that."
"You better hope she's still alive otherwise you're dead." Ethan told her. With that everyone walked out.
"I want every inch of this property searched. Look for anything; ask everyone. I don't want a stone unturned." Alex yelled out to anyone near him.
The search was underway. Every warrior was searching the grounds.
Melody, please don't do this. Ethan mind linked her.
I have to. She replied.
He knew that she was still close enough. Alex heard it too.
Melody, this isn't funny. We are working out a way to keep you and our son safe. Alex told her. Ethan, tell her what the plan is.
Melody, we need you here and safe. We have a plan that will work and it won't work if you aren't here and where we need you.
My loves, I can't. I know what he wants and I know how we can end this. I will keep our son safe.
As Ethan and Alex ran toward where their senses were leading them she ran harder. She knew they were after her. She knew that they were right behind her. Her breathing became labored. Her stomach was hurting and she was tired. She didn't know how much longer she would be able to run from them.
She stopped long enough to get her breath. She was tired and seeing little black dots everywhere. She pushed herself back up from the tree and began walking fast again. She didn't see it. She didn't see the tree trunk at all. She fell. She fell hard on her stomach. The pain radiated throughout her whole stomach.
She screamed out loud.
Alex and Ethan knew that they were close and now they were even more scared. That wasn't a good scream. That was a pain scream and they didn't know what was happening.
They found her. She was on her stomach and they saw something that they didn't want to see.
"Melody?" Alex cried out.
"Mel?" Ethan rolled her over, she wasn't waking up.
"Fuck." Alex picked her up and they began their way back to the house and to the hospital.
"E, there's too much blood. The baby."
"It's going to be okay." Ethan tried to calm Alex but he could feel it too. He felt it deep in his own soul. Something wasn't right and it needed to be fixed.
In the hospital they ran to the room and nurses began hooking her up to IV's, pulling her clothes off, ultrasound carts were rushed in and the men were rushed out.
"No, we're staying." they said.
"No, you Alpha's are not. Get out until we know what is going on." the doctor shut the door in their face.
Alex and Ethan began walking around trying to calm down.
"It's time." Ethan told Alex. He knew better than to say no. Ethan was one of the best fighters. He studied war all his life, Ethan knew better than anyone. Alex nodded his head and Ethan ran out the hospital.
Alex heard the howling from Ethan and felt a little calmer letting him carry out the war. Alex was confident about the war. This wasn't the way they wanted to go into this but if it wasn't for this threat against them Melody wouldn't have gone out to try to stop it. Or do whatever it was that she was trying to do.
Alex sank down to the wall, not knowing what else to do. He couldn't do anything but keep his wife safe. He didn't know what to do. He sat there with his back against the wall, his wife lying lifeless in a bed, his other mate going into war.
He sat there for what felt like hours.
Waiting.
Waiting.
Waiting.
Waiting.
He felt a pain in his stomach from Melody's connection. If he felt it, so did Ethan.
What's going on?
I don't know. They haven't come out yet.
Ethan had been trying to stay connected to Alex while he was on the hunt for his grandfather.
What the fuck is going on? My stomach is in a lot of pain.
I know, mine is too. I'm worried man.
Me too, I'm going to get this taken care of for all of us.
Just please be careful. We love you.
I'm at their camp. I'm going to kill him. I love you and tell Mel I love her too.
Always.
He dropped the connection with Ethan so no one would be able to track him.
Alex continued to wait for what felt like an eternity. He tried knocking on the door but no one would let him in.
"What the hell is going on in there?" he demanded.
The door opened a crack. "Please Alpha, let us do our job." the door shut on him again.
"Either let me in or I'll break down the damn door."
A voice yelled back at him. "You break the door down, I'm kicking you out of the hospital."
He huffed and began walking up and down the hall again. He couldn't handle the waiting anymore. He couldn't take the pain. He couldn't take it. He wanted to make sure she was okay. He walked over to the door to see if there was any way that he would be able to get into the room.
Just as he was going to knock, the door opened.
"Alpha." the nurse nodded her head at him.
"How is she?"
"I'll let the doctor talk to you."
Everyone walked out and left Melody and the Alpha with the doctor.
"Alpha." the doctor nodded.
Alex saw Melody lying in the bed with tubes in her mouth. She still wasn't awake.
"When will she wake?"
"We have her sedated because of the pain. She did manage to fall right on the top of her stomach and puncture through her stomach. I believe she will be okay with it all. She did lose a lot of blood."
"And the baby?"
The doctor looked back at Melody and pulled down the blanket from her stomach and then pulled the ultrasound machine to the bed. He put the gel on her belly and began rubbing the wand over her stomach.
"I'm sorry Alpha, this is what took so long."
Alex didn't understand, he didn't want to understand. "No," he shook his head.
"We couldn't save the baby."
