"What is that, Evie?"Courtney asked her daughter.
"Star!"the child exclaimed triumphantly, one arm clutching her yellow crayon raised above her head.
"Well done, Evie. Now, what kind of star?"
"I don't know,"Evie said. She scribbled on her coloring book, lines be damned.
"It's a shooting star!"
"Cool."
"You don't like shooting stars?"
Evie looked up at her mother. "No."
"Why not?"
"Because I dooooooon't."
"Okay, then."
"Mother, I am famished,"Jude said, sinking onto the couch, near where Coco and Evie sat on the floor.
"We'll have lunch in an hour,"Court told him.
"But I'm starving."
"Then starve,"Evie said, flipping to a new page in her coloring book.
"She's so mean,"Jude said.
"She's just a baby,"Courtney said, hiding her smile.
"But she's a mean baby."
