The Pit is roaring with drunkards by noon, slamming their glasses down and shouting close to the edge. The compound is chaotic, swarming with black-clothed Dauntless.

You jog through the cool, dark hallways with your lunch, swiping at your forehead. It's good to be out of the insanity- the lunch room was so packed that for a minute, you thought you wouldn't be able to get lunch.

You slide down the concrete side of the hall until you reach the floor, tossing an apple and catching it again.

Initiation Day. If you make it through, you'll be going to Dauntless Ball tonight. If you don't...

You picture the fires that showed up in your fear landscape, the concrete blocks and tattered clothes.

What if I don't have what it takes?

The thought echoes through your mind as you eat the meal you took from the dining hall.

"Time to go, Amity," someone says, and you look up to see Peter and Drew walking by.

You sigh, tilting your head back to rest on the cool wall. If you get up, it could all be over. If you get up, you could be going back to-

No.

You grab Peter's hand and pull yourself up. He looks at you, surprised, but doesn't let go.

"You good?" he asks, and you can't be sure if he's mocking you or if he's serious, but you nod anyway.

"Yeah," you say. "I'm good."

Factionless is not an option anymore. It's here or nothing. You're going to do your fear landscape, and you're going to leave everything you've got on that floor.

As your feet tap on the way to the landscape, you know.

It's go time.
