"Hey," Jay whispered lightly on a Tuesday
morning.

His hand traced Cole's face, from his temple to his chin. His fingers memorizing every bump, every follicle of hair, the bone structure. A study they did so that Jay would know even if he closed his eyes. Hopefully that would avoid the amount of times that the lightning ninja would poke Cole in the eye. His chuckled softly at the thought, as it was just last night; less than 12 hours ago. The amount of 'sorry' the blue ninja sputtered was drowned out from the deep laughter that erupted in the black ninja. He didn't mind. He was still able to see so no harm was done.

Speaking of the devil, the words his lover uttered were more than enough to wake him up.
A special power Jay claimed he has. Cole digressed but that was the end of that conversation. His lashes were rested peacefully before they were disturbed by his conscious, fluttered opening, squinting a bit from the light that shone in his room. He furrowed his brows in confusion, they were supposed to be up before the sun had risen.

Jay sensed the rush his lover was going through and only smiled, massaging his scalp.
"The mission, remember? There's no sunrise exercise today." Relief washed over Cole until he really remembered what that day was. The frown was back on his face but it was deeper than before. Jay's hand was in his hair and Cole's hand decided to meet up with it, intertwine their fingers as it squeezed the other for comfort. A slow gulp was formed when Cole sat up and Jay followed in suit. The auburn headed man had his back against the headrest and the other had his head on his shoulder, nuzzling it in his neck.

"Why do you have to go? Why do any of you have to go? The fucking military can deal with that shit, not us." Long story short, there was a mining expedition that got exploded randomly. It had been happening everywhere. The police and paramedics were there a couple of weeks ago, checking out the location and while in search, they all died from the rocks falling on them.
Jay, Lloyd and Zane were called to the job. The only reason Cole wasn't selected was due to the suspicion Wu and Pixal had, suspecting that the explosions were to lure Cole. One was at a mine where a lot of opal was found.

The gem of Cole's birth month: October.

Nya said it was a bit of a stretch but to be cautious, it was best if Cole stayed back. Everyone agreed.

It was a gamble they were playing. On one hand, nothing could happen but of the other hand none of them were immortal, one could easily die. Hell, Jay and Kai both almost drowned.
The military could deal with it, but there was an agreement with the national government that it would be best if elemental masters went. Wu defended why it was bad idea, his words were deafened by the mayors and chiefs. Again, they just had powers, not magic. They fought in numerous battles, but never claimed they were immortal.

They were idols but non were made of stone. This was a death mission and they all knew it.

The master of earth fought the tears that poked in his eyes but tried to stay strong for his love. He needed to. It would be perceived as if he thought that Jay couldn't defend himself, when in reality it was far from that. There was just so much guilt that carried in his chest, heavy like an anchor and it weighed down in his heart, making it hard from him to move. This was because of him. He couldn't protect his soulmate due to the enemy may being linked to him.

Their plan was to stay in a cave and meet the enemy at the next expected cave. A sapphire mined cave, the birth stone of Cole's mother, Lilly; September. Everything was far fetched but no one knew anymore.
After Harumi, they had to keep on their toes. Who knew she wanted to revive Garmadon and tried to kill them multiple times? No one saw it coming. They never wanted to have that type of scare again.

Jay was equally afraid but he would do anything to protect Cole. His hand left Cole's, resting it on his neck instead. He pulled him in for a small kiss, a heartwarming chaste lip to lip.
Letting him know that he was there now and that if anything did happen, he loved him.
Forever.

The black ninja tried gripping on to what he could but he was too weak to do so. Thought you would never hear that in a sentence now, did you?
The emotional toll drained the fuck out of him and now he was left with just his physical estate. So many things happened in the past year and him and Jay announcing their relationship was last year. That in itself was wild to go through. Taking that crazy experience out, there was still multiple thing the team as a whole went through.
Villains.
Friends.
Romances.
Finding more secrets about Wu: he made a third tea shop that no one knew about until a couple months ago. It's called Even Steeper Wisdom.

Jay pulled away from the kisses, softly pressing them to Cole's cheek then on his forehead, which he then replaced his lips with his forehead as well. Pressing another light kiss on his nose.

"Look, I am unsure about what the future will be, but as long as I know that you love me, I will do everything in my power to come back to you. That's the best promise I can make." A moment didn't even pass when Cole rushed to give Jay a big hug, his shoulders shaking as he sobbed. Everything that he held in was let out.

"I don't want to lose you. Please come back. I love you so much." The words filled the lightning ninja's ears and that triggered something in him to begin to cry as well.

"I love you too." They hugged for another five minutes, crying in each other's arms. It was only moments before they got an alarm, letting them know that their mysterious attacker already exploded a mine.

However, it wasn't a mine.

It was Cole's childhood home.

Lou's house, his dad.

And he was in it.
