Y/n pulled Peter up onto the rooftop.
"Okay, okay, slow down." Peter tried not to lose his footing up the stairs. When they made it to the rooftop, Y/n looked over her shoulder, smile beaming. She showed him the picnic she set up for the both of them, nearly taking a day to prepare. "Woah," he gasped.
"Do you like it?" She questioned, her anxiety radiating. Peter's only response was him grinning ear to ear, leaning in to give her a small loving kiss.
"I love it," he murmured when they pulled away, his hands on her neck. He wanted to kiss her again but restrained himself. He knew very well that they wouldn't stop.
"Do you remember what day it is?"
He tilted his head, wondering why she was asking, "July fourth. Why?" She looked at him deadpanned. It took him a second to figure it out. "Fireworks!" He jumped in excitement. Y/n and Peter loved fireworks with all of their hearts. The colours that exploded, the big bang giving them a rush, and most importantly, the light that shone in the dark night. They loved the little bursts in the air.
"Let's go eat," she pulled his hand once more towards the picnic. They sat down, munching on the food Y/n made for them.
Peter groaned in satisfaction, "I love your baking."
"More than me," she joked, giggling as she ate a cupcake alongside him.
"Oh yeah," he said without thinking. She raised her eyebrow at him, making him sweat from the words he chose. "Wait- no. I mean..I like you more than your baking obviously, you're living, it's not. You're prettier, you're smarter and you're a human. It's pretty obvious-" he stopped when he heard an angelic laughter.
Y/n was laughing her head off, she was wheezing for more air and her stomach cramped. But whenever she thought of it again, she would start laughing all over again. Peter's cheeks glowed red in embarrassment. He was staring at her, seeing how beautiful she was when she smiled, head thrown back dramatically.
He was wondering how Y/n liked him. There was a bunch of boys in the school who had crushes on her, but she chose him. She slowed her laughter, the joke finally getting old. When she had caught his gaze, she furrowed her eyebrows, "is there something wrong?" She touched the areas around her mouth for crumbs.
"You're beautiful," he muttered as if he were in a trance, admiring all of her features.
"Thank you," she blushed, putting a strand of hair behind her. A firework blew, exciting her. She grasped Peter's arm, shaking in delight, "it's starting!" He only laughed in response of her excitement, putting a hand on top of hers, watching the lights go in different directions.
Ten minutes within the fireworks starting, his arm hair stood up, goosebumps covering the once flat skin. His enhanced hearing picked up some screaming, his mind screaming that there was danger.
He looked at Y/n who was smiling at the night sky being lit up while eating a strawberry. He didn't want to leave her, but duty calls. "I have to go," he whispered to her. Even though the fireworks were loud, she heard him. A frown covered her smile, disappointed that he always would leave her. She always wondered where he went. She thought he was cheating on her, but then realized that he never checks his phone in every single date that they're in.
"Fine," she said coldly, letting go of his arm. The warmth that was once there was now replaced by the cool air blowing at them. Peter's senses were going haywire as the screams were getting worse. He had to go now.
Peter stood up, "I'm sorry."
"Do I mean nothing to you?" She asked him, looking back over her shoulder as the fireworks drowned her face with light with different colours. He walked back towards her, capturing her in a loving kiss, telling her that he was sorry. She kissed back, wanting the moment to last forever. But forever is a lie.
"You're my everything," he uttered before he ran off.
