EVENING
Y/N took a deep breath as she saw a lot of paparazzi outside her ex-wife's house. Her driver got out of the car and went to open the door for her. The paparazzi are obviously shocked and thrilled to see her there; they are yelling at her now and blinding her with their cameras.
Y/N thanked her driver before walking to the small path ahead of her while bodyguards came to protect her from the paparazzi. And as usual, she tries to just ignore their questions and assumptions.
"Y/N! Y/N! Does Scarlett know you're here at your ex-wife's house celebrating her birthday?!"
Y/N just clenched her jaw and ignored that one. And as soon as she made it inside the house, she let out a deep breath.
The paparazzi's yelling was replaced by the loud music inside the house. It wasn't a wild party, just a typical actress' party.
People started looking at her; some greeted her, while others just gawked at her. Well, she's not named Hollywood's Face for nothing.
Finally, she saw her best friends. She fixed her suit before making her way toward them. She sneaked behind Jennifer and kissed her cheek.
Jennifer yelped but she visibly relaxed when she saw it was only Y/N. "You sneaky bitch!"
Y/N giggled, "Sorry."
"Well, well, well," Cate smirked, looking at Y/N up and down. "You are looking good, darling. Someone you're trying to impress?" She teased.
"Oh, please. I always look good, Blanchett." Y/N rolled her eyes and chuckled. "And you ladies are looking stunning as always." She said and kissed their cheeks. "My gay ass is very pleased." She smirked.
"We never disappoint." Charlize said and winked.
"Ah," Y/N said, and dramatically put a hand on her chest, "Wink at me again and I'll die, Theron." She said.
Charlize just laughed, shaking her head.
"Y/N."
Y/N's heart stopped for a second when she heard that voice. She looked at her best friends before she turned around, seeing her ex-wife.
Standing there is the birthday girl, Jessica Chastain.
And as much as Y/N tried to ignore it, Jessica looked beautiful.
"Jessica." Y/N said.
Jessica smiles and walked closer to Y/N. "Hey, I am so glad you came."
"Yeah, of course." Y/N smiles, "Happy birthday, Jess." She said this while taking something from her jacket pocket; it was a small jewelry box.
Jessica looked surprised upon seeing the gift. She didn't really think that Y/N would get her anything, but it was Y/N after all. The kindest person she's ever met.
"Thank you." Jessica said, smiling. She took the jewelry box from Y/N, "Can I open this now?" She asked.
"It's yours," Y/N said, smiling. "You can do anything you like."
Jessica smiles and carefully opens the jewelry box. And she gasped as soon as she saw what was inside. She looked at Y/N. "Y/N..."
Y/N smiles, "I remember the last time we talked—three months ago, I think? Yeah. You said that you lost the promise ring that I gave you when we were just dating."
"Whoa, slow down, Jess." Y/N said, frowning. "Let's switch to FaceTime." She said. It's been months since she last talked to her ex-wife, but now Jessica called out of the blue, crying.
As soon as Jessica's face showed up on her screen, she confirmed that the redhead was really crying her eyes out.
"What's wrong? Are you okay?" Y/N asked, she's getting worried now.
They might not be friends like they used to ever since their divorce, but they are civil to each other, and Jessica was still a part of her life. They were married for three years; of course she'll still worry.
"I-I lost," Jessica took a deep breath, "I-I lost my pro-promise ring!" She said and sobbed.
"The one I gave you when we were just dating?" Y/N asked.
Jessica nodded her head. "I-I was at the beach earlier and w-when I got out of the water, i-it wasn't in my finger anymore!"
Y/N stopped wearing their promise ring the same day she stopped wearing their wedding ring. But Jessica never took off her promise ring; she did, however, take off her wedding ring, of course.
Jessica said that the promise ring gives her comfort, and she never feels comfortable without it. And Y/N knows losing it might be heartbreaking for Jessica.
"So, I'm giving you mine since I know how much comfort it gives you." Y/N said, "I don't... wear it anymore, as you already know. So, it's all yours."Jessica wore Y/N's promise ring, and she sighed in contentment; she's never been as comfortable in her life as she is right now. Ever since she lost her own promise ring, she's been itchy and uncomfortable. She's not sure what it was, but it could have been because she'd been wearing that promise ring for so long that she felt naked without it.
Y/N smiles while watching Jessica.
"Thank you," Jessica whispered and pulled Y/N in a hug. "Thank you."
Shocked by the hug, Y/N just nodded her head and hugged Jessica back.
