Don't Waste Time

Y/N came back to the living room and dropped herself on the couch.

"Hey, what happened?" Y/F/N asked. "Did you cry?"

Y/N closed her eyes, pinching the bridge of her nose.

"This is about that Scarlett woman, isn't it?" Y/M/N asked.

Y/N looked at her mother, "What?"

"Oh, come on, you're still my child. I know your emotions, and I definitely see how you look at that blonde woman. I watch the news so I'm kinda updated, and I know that you two suddenly stopped hanging out." Y/M/N said.

"What happened, sweetheart?" Y/F/N asked.

"It is about Scarlett," Y/N said, sighing. "I'm not gonna tell you guys what happened because it's complicated. And I have an hour to decide if I should meet her or not. I just—I don't know what to do."

"Well, do you really love her?" Y/M/N asked.

"Yes." Y/N answered without hesitation. "She broke my heart, but I still love her. And I don't think it will go away soon."

"Then don't give up fighting." Y/M/N said.

"But she broke my heart." Y/N said.

"We don't know what happened between you two, but give her a chance." Y/F/N said, "Don't repeat what your mom and I did. Don't waste time."

Y/N frown, "What do you mean?"

Y/F/N looked at Y/M/N, and Y/M/N nodded her head, smiling.

"Well, remember when I said that your dad and I were best friends?" Y/M/N asked with an eyebrow raised.

Y/N nodded her head.

"We met when we were teenagers, and we instantly became friends. We never really liked each other romantically, so that's why it was easy. When we entered college, we met other people and eventually met the love of our lives." Y/M/N said, "The name of the guy that I loved was Benjamin. I was so shy around him, and I never had the courage to come and talk to him, but when I finally did, it was the best day of my life. He was sweet and kind, he invited me to this party, and he said that I could bring a plus one. So, of course, I brought your dad, because the love of his life was also at the party."

Y/M/N looked at Y/F/N and they smiled at each other.

"So anyway, Benjamin and I spent the whole time together, just talking. And before I left the party because it was time for my curfew, he asked me out. He said that he actually liked me but was just afraid that I'd turn him down."

"Why did you think I'd turn you down?" Y/M/N asked, giggling.

"I don't know, I guess I just really like you so much that I got scared. I don't want you to go and hate me, so I never tried asking you out." Benjamin said, smiling shyly.

"No, I like you too." Y/M/N said, smiling.

"So... it's a date, then?" Benjamin asked with a hopeful smile.

"It's a date, Benjamin." Y/M/N said.

"No take backs?" Benjamin asked.

Y/M/N laughed, "No. No take backs."

"Okay, just to make sure, let's do pinky swear." Benjamin said, waving his pinky finger.

Y/M/N gigged. "What are you? A kid?"

"I do this with my nephews and nieces, it's a genuine form of promise." Benjamin said, "I really like you and I want to take you out on a date. So, let's pinky swear on it."

"Okay, what do we have to do?" Y/M/N asked, smiling.

"We will lock our pinky fingers and we will say our promises then we will kiss our thumb to seal it." Benjamin said.

"Alright," Y/M/N said, locking her pinky finger with Benjamin's. "I pinky swear that I'll go on a date with you." She said and kissed her thumb.

Benjamin smiles widely. "And I pinky swear that I'll make you the happiest woman in the world." He said and kissed his thumb.

"After that, your dad and I left together because he's the one driving. And the next morning... our classes were canceled because of a massive shooting." Y/M/N said and took a deep breath.

Y/N frowned, waiting for her mom to continue.

"The shooting happened at the same party your dad and I attended, and everyone in the school was there, so a lot of students were killed. Including Benjamin." Y/M/N said and gulped. "And when they found him, he had a note in his pocket, and it has my name on it. So they gave me the note, and it says... Y/M/N just left the party, and she actually said yes to me! I'll finally take the love of my life on a date. If future Y/M/N is reading this, I hope I get to fulfill my pinky promise to you. You will always be my person." She said. Benjamin's note is tattooed on her heart; she knows what it says, word for word.

"I'm so sorry about that, mom." Y/N said, she never knew that.

"The pinky swear?" Y/M/N said and looked at her daughter. "It was Benjamin who taught me how to do that. We never really fulfilled our promises that night, but still, I used the pinky swear to you because I knew that's something that I couldn't afford to break." She said.

That actually broke Y/N's heart. "I'm sorry, mom." She said.

Y/M/N pursed her lips, and nodded her head. "Yeah, me too."
