Yeti paced the room while reading the letter.
Hi Yeti!
We're all really worried about you, and we're trying to come up with a plan. We think we'll break you out soon, but we're being guarded very closely. Also your parents are scary. Hang in there, we'll get you out soon.
If you can, try to find out more information about the scavengers.
-Blackpearl
Yo this is Shard with some advice-BURN this message so your parents don't find out.
Yeti groaned. HOW was he supposed to BURN the message? With ICE breath? THANKS A LOT, SHARD.
Yeti sighed and ripped up the message. He couldn't burn it, but at least he could make it unreadable. He breathed ice breath on the paper scraps, so when it melted the paper would be a soggy mess. He paced a bit more, then groaned frustratedly.
Why did I agree to tell Snowstorm? I'm not sure I even know the answers. Yeti walked reluctantly over to the scroll on the bedside table.
5,000 Snowflakes. The Ancient History of Icewing Society. Pride and Prejudice. Scavenger Behavior.
Yeti looked curiously at the last scroll and opened it up. There was a neat print and well spaced words.
Since the scorching, Dragons have shown far more superiority over scavengers. However, recent studies show that scavengers may be more intelligent than we believe.
In the margins, a sloping, messy handwriting had written, look into this. Recent kidnappings?
Certain sentences and words had been highlighted or underlined.
According to Professor Snowsnot of the Icewing University, scavengers have had a recent spike in population. More new settlements have been built, especially in the Icewing Kingdom.
Yeti narrowed his eyes at the scroll. Snowsnot? He chuckled, then started wondering about the rest of the paragraph. He read a little further in the book, then tossed back on the table.
Then it hit Yeti. "Three moons, I'll just tell her what she already knows!" Yeti smiled, feeling very proud of himself. If Blackpearl was here, she'd have already figured it out, He thought. And Amber would have laughed at me because I hadn't.
A brisk knock interpreted his thoughts. Before he could even answer, the door swung open and revealed his mother, and another plate of food.
"You have information for me?" She narrowed her eyes. Yeti quickly pushed the book a little farther behind him.
"Yes," Yeti smiled, remembering the plan.
"Stop smiling and tell me!"
"Well....Pine knew the scavengers built more dens in the Ice Kingdom. But I never really talked to him, so I don't know." Yeti could be a very convincing liar when he wanted to be.
Icestorm looked furious for a second before gathering herself. "Take a second to remember. I'm sure he told you something important," her voice shook with rage.
"I still don't remember anything," he smirked.
Icestorm snapped. "HE TOLD YOU SOMETHING! I KNOW HE DID! AND YOU ARE GOING TO TELL ME OR SO HELP ME I WILL STAB YOU!" She pulled out a knife the size of his head.
Yeti stood frozen. Even if he could run, his legs would give out under him. His mother could beat him in any fight. He was stuck. Helpless. And he hated being helpless.
"I-I..." Yeti stammered, his eyes nervously on the knife.
Suddenly, Amber came flying through the doorway and landed squarely on Icestorm, pinning her to the ground and wrestling the knife out of her grasp.
Icestorm shrieked, spraying ice breath all over the room. Yeti jumped back, narrowly avoiding another injury.
But instead of hitting the wall, he bumped into something scaley.
Cherryblossom materialized in front of him.
"You know, it's rude to bump into people," she smiled, a little too cheerful for the present situation.
The two of them rushed back over to Amber and Icestorm. Amber had his mother halfway pinned to the ground, although she kept trying to spray Amber's head with death breath.
Yeti snapped his mother's mouth closed and glared at her. He turned to face Cherry and Amber. "What were you thinking? Why did you guys come by yourselves?! Are you insane?"
Amber knocked out Icestorm before answering. "We rescued you, didn't we?" She pointed out.
"Where is everyone else?" Being wimps, no doubt.
"Taking out your dad," Cherry said as though it were obvious.
Yeti burst out laughing. "So you sent two dragons to fight my highly skilled mother? And three to fight a dragon who wouldn't risk chipping his talons picking up a scroll?" Clearly they didn't know his parents well at all.
Amber rolled her eyes. "Just shut up and move it you great lumbering polar bear!" She pulled him out of the room, but not before tying up Icestorm to an icicle in the corner of the room.
Blackpearl, Shard and Boriel were waiting together at the bottom of the stairs for them.
Blackpearl had a big black satchel draped over her shoulder.
"What's that for?" Yeti asked stupidly.
"Did you expect us to stay here after rescuing you? We're leaving, idiot!" Amber snapped at Yeti and ran to the doors leading outside, and Boriel, holding Blackpearl's talons, followed closely behind her. Blackpearl, looking nervously back at the stairs leading to his parents, ran after, and the others followed.
The moment they stepped outside into the snow, Yeti felt the pleasure of ice and wind beating against his scales. Everyone else shuddered in the sudden cold.
The group rushed towards the gate, wanting to be out of there as soon as possible. But as they approached the bridge, a figure appeared in the snow. The dragonets stopped in their tracks. Who is after us now? Yeti thought, annoyed.
However, as the shape moved closer a familiar face appeared.
"Pika?"
Hi.
I promise I haven't abandoned this book.
Everyone in the group made the collective decision to step back for a bit. We are all writing other books and this book is on the backburner.
It will only get updates when we finish the chapter, no deadlines.
Also, instead of writing 4 more books for the rest of the series we are only doing 2. Amber's book would have been next, but instead Amber, Shard and Boriel's books are all condensed into one. Blackpearl will round off the series.
