Spider lay in their cell in the scavenger den, bored out of their mind. Spider was a SandWing-SilkWing hybrid. Their cells had mutated and they now had six legs and silk powers. Hence their name. My parents are SO creative, they always joked to other dragons.
Spider's tail swished against the metal floor. They looked at the cell across from their own.
"Hey," they called across the hall to the NightWing there.
"Hi," Shadowstrike replied.
"I'm really bored." Spider complained.
"I really don't care," Shadow replied.
Spider sighed and walked over to the bars of their cell. Their ears twitched. "Do you hear something?"
Shadow groaned in exasperation and retreated further into his cell. "No. I don't care. Leave me alone."
"Oh right," Spider said with a grin, "You're busy moping about your lost daughter."
Shadow didn't reply, he just wrapped his black wings around himself and blended into the dark cell. Spider sighed and pressed their face against the bars, trying to see down the hall.
I swear I heard something, They thought.
"Hey," they called down to Shadow's surviving son and daughter, two SeaWing-NightWing dragonets.
"Yeah, I hear something too." Bluefin called over. Spider heard his talons click on the cold metal floor, and their ears twitched again.
"It's probably just a new prisoner," Moontide called over cheerfully. Why is she cheerful? Spider thought. She has absolutely no reason to be cheerful.
A scream echoed through the chamber. "LET ME OUT!"
Spider saw Shadow leap to his feet and come closer to the bars of his own jail cell.
"I WILL KILL ALL OF YOU, I SWEAR!" the voice screamed again.
Everyone was listening closely to the yells, not wanting to miss a thing. "MY FRIENDS WILL FIND ME! BLACKPEARL CAN FIGURE OUT HOW TO DEFEAT YOU!"
Shadow blinked. Blackpearl wasn't a normal name for any of the tribes. Only a Seawing-Nightwing hybrid would have that name. Only Shadow's daughter. And according to the newcomer, Blackpearl was coming to find them.
"YOU CAN'T DEFEAT A SEER AND AN ANIMUS IN ONE GO!"
That sealed the deal.
She was born under two moons.
Spider knew right then and there that they were going to be rescued.
They wouldn't have to die.
Unless Blackpearl died trying.
