i'm selfish, i know
_______The break between the ride there was coming up in a few minutes. You realized it when you were exiting the highway onto a singular road, heading towards a large gray building. As the building came closer, you looked at it more closely. It was a gray-colored painted wooden building, with a dark green roof, that was stabilized by stone pillars. There were multiple pathways leading to the building, but what caught your eye was the large outdoor eating area. Some stalls seemed like places you could purchase food and drinks to dine with.
You assumed the bathroom was in the building since a bunch of paths lead to it. Coach Irihata began directing the people on your bus off. You were in the front row; allowing you to get out first. You had to use the bathroom since you were on the bus for an hour so far. The first bus had already arrived a bit ago, making your group come ten minutes later. You knew Hajime would most likely want to meet up, but you just wanted to stay on your bus and not go to his.
You followed Yahaba and Watari towards the restrooms since they were a part of your group and wanted to also go to the bathrooms. You felt the heat on your back, and the sun was still slowly climbing the sky. School had already started a few minutes ago - you were happy to be out.
"Y/n, did you see what happened with Kunimi?" Watari asked, his gray eyebrows furrowed at the mention of Kunimi's name. You forgot how Watari and Yahaba were friends of Kunimi, they sat together at lunch.
You glanced at Yahaba. He was staring down at the ground with his hands behind his back. None of the three of you stopped walking towards the bathroom, even with such a question. You bet everybody now- knew about Kunimi's disappearance and was worried. Kindaichi was most likely suffering greatly; more than anybody.
"Yeah, Matsukawa suggested that we should join a search party after the Interhigh. You guys should join as well." You mentioned the search party in case they didn't know already. They most likely would have, but you just wanted to make sure.
"I think it's shitty," Yahaba spoke after a moment of silence. You were surprised by such vulgar language coming from him. He was rather a calm and carefree guy, maybe a bit shallow with his attempts at getting girls' attention.
Watari just shoved him a bit, almost like a hidden 'shut up' through body language. Yahaba didn't speak anymore as you guys reached the bathrooms. You parted your separate ways, each going to your respective bathroom. You still haven't sorted out your emotions with Kunimi. You liked him, he cheated on his girlfriend with you, and then he runaways. You once again pull up your unopened message to Kunimi, staring at it for a few good minutes.
You were about to exit the bathroom but you heard voices coming from the other side of the door. You were going to open it anyways but you heard your name. You decided to lean against the door and listen more closely. It was Watari and Yahaba speaking to each other.
"I think it's just stupid, that we throw this party for y/n when Kunimi is out there," Yahaba said, there was a voice crack at the last word of his sentence. You bite the inside of your cheek.
"None of the team knew that Kunimi was gone," Watari replied, he seemed to be trying to comfort his friend. You just leaned your back against the door and slid down to the dirty brown tile flooring.
"I just feel like, I don't even know, y/n somehow has something to do with Kunimi running away." There was a thick silence after Yahaba's statement. You felt like everything in the world was just going wrong for you. You didn't want people to think you were the reason he left, even though you thought you were. It was a dreadful feeling that went through your entire body at that very moment.
