people come and go, that's life.
______

After Oikawa's confession - everything felt different. You didn't accept it nor did you deny it. The air around the two of you felt uneven, like his presence was overbearing, while yours faltered to nothing. Oikawa was overpowering; especially his brown gaze.

You felt it across the kitchen table as you slurped the chicken noodle soup in front of you. Your eyes were all on different cut shapes of the carrots; stars, squares, circles, and diamonds. The chicken felt rough on top of your mouth, it was overcooked. You didn't want to look up.

"Issei, the soup is good!" You heard Hina compliment Matsukawa from across the table. You finally looked up since she was sitting anywhere near Oikawa. Hina was seated in between Matsukawa and Hanamaki. She threw a huge fit before dinner since she wanted to sit by her older brother.

"I like Mom's more." Botan quietly said, before pushing a spoonful of noodles into his mouth. He sat right beside Oikawa. The brown hair boy's face was blocked out by the strand of hair in your face. Matsukawa let out a hum to both of his siblings.

Everybody ate in silence after that.

The sounds of dishes clanking were all around the space. You could hear Hajime slurping beside you which annoyed you to death. Nobody was talking, so the sound of people eating was all you could hear other than the dishes.

The sound of the front door opening could be heard, followed by a, "I'm home!" You could tell it was an older woman, and you assumed it was the Matsukawas' mother. When the dark-haired woman came into the kitchen, Hina jumped out of her chair and leaped onto her. She was hugging the poor mother to death.

"Issei made chicken noodle soup, it's okay, but can you make it next time?" Botan called out from the table, and Matsukawa just let out a large sigh. You thought his soup was just fine. You never had a better chicken noodle soup than this.

"Honey, let go of me." The mother sighed and sat down her purse on the kitchen counter. Hina thankfully let go of the tired woman and stood there watching her. "I see you brought your friends over, Issei, without telling me once again."

You glanced over at Hajime. Should the two of you leave? Hajime just gave you a glance, before focusing back on the mother, as she shrugged over her jacket. She looked very professional; she must have an important job. Hina grabbed her jacket and hurried back over to the front door.

The mother finally made eye contact with the table fully and gave a large smile. "Hello Takahiro, Tooru, and Hajime. Haven't seen the three of you in a while since your last stay here. Oh, and who might you be?" She made eye contact with you.

You gave her a small smile and wave. "I'm Iwaizumi Y/N, nice to meet you!" The older woman introduced herself to you as Matsukawa's mother, before continuing on about asking the three boys about their lives. You weren't upset that her attention wasn't on you. You didn't know her well enough to want her attention or her personal questions.

"So, are you boys staying over tonight?" She asked, avoiding eye contact with you. The boys seemed to converse with themselves about staying over. You could tell they didn't want to stay over since the last events because their eyes kept shifting between Matsukawa and his mother very rapidly.

"I wasn't planning on staying over, to be honest," Hanamaki spoke out, as he scratched the back of his head. His gray eyes landed on Hajime, almost as silent ask of 'back me up.'

Before Hajime could say anything, the mother quickly overtook the conversation. "Well, start planning, all four of you can sleep in the basement. We just redid the guest bedroom." Matsukawa's mother said, "Issei, did you show your friends the bedroom?"
