you forgot to apologize
________

The extra courts in the back were filled with multiple teams waiting for the next round. Aoba Johsai was the second to last court, with Shiratorizawa at the end. The air was so tense that you could cut into it with a knife. Shiratorizawa didn't seem to mind your team at all but rather was focused on stretching their bodies. Your brother and his friends were sending death glares at their captain.

You knew their captain, Ushijima Wakatoshi, well not really actually. You had seen him in the hallways when you were a first year in junior high. The only thing you recalled about him from your peers was that he was blunt, and well, he was good at volleyball. You actually stayed clear from him most of the time.

Coach Mizoguchi was yelling at the boys. You hated that. You knew they needed to start to stretch but there was a lot happening. So much was happening, that no normal teenager should go through. Actually, nobody should go through it.

"Do you have Senseki's players' stats?" Coach Irihata asked when you placed the basket of water bottles on the bench. The older man seemed to be more relaxed now that the match between Karasuno was done. You handed him the folder filled with the stats that was right by you.

You sat down on the bench with a long-awaited sigh. Mizoguchi was instructing the boys into multiple different stretching positions to ease their joints for the match that would be happening in now thirty minutes. Most of the teams were doing the same except for the yellow team, which was Johzenji High.

"That Karasuno match was something." You spoke up while glancing over at Irihata as he glanced through the folder filled with papers. You knew Karasuno won last time, but Oikawa wasn't even there the whole match. But, this time he was.

You heard a hum from the older man. "They are something. Something in the making. Something that will cause us trouble in the future." He replied after a moment. You hoped they wouldn't cause the team trouble in the future, or even in the first place.

"Will we be able to stop this something?" You asked him, still staring at him. He had not once made eye contact with you. He was still flipping through the pages until he landed on a page of a certain pink-haired boy with green eyes. His finger traced over the matches he has played in.

Coach Irihata finally looked at you, his eyes staring into yours. You noticed the wrinkles underneath his eyes and the smile lines around his mouth. He looked like he had seen everything.

"Would you stop something that was starving?"

_______

The match between Senseki had begun a little bit ago, and Oikawa was currently sitting out beside you on the bench. He was subbed out in the middle of the first set for Shigeru since his blackeye was swelling. You were holding an ice packet to his eye as he looked out onto the court. You knew he wanted to be out there.

You saw Ui on the other side of the court, and she was speaking to their team's coaches. She kept pointing to your side of the court, most likely to Oikawa. Your team wasn't struggling out there without him, but it wasn't as smooth as usual. There were some mistakes with the height, especially when set to Hajime, but your brother didn't seem to bother by it.

"Can you stop pressing so hard?" Oikawa grumbled and moved his head away from the icepack. You mumbled out a sorry and readjusted it again to fit his needs. His eye was still a deep purple shade, but on the edges, they were turning brown meaning there was healing. You just hoped his eye would get better soon.

"You ever going to tell me why you have a black eye?" Coach Irihata asked since he was right beside the both of you. He was watching the whole time. "I'll keep pestering until you do tell."
