9.9 adaptation

The gates of hilltop open and Tara walks out of the house. "Is that..." she starts.

Enid nods with a smile. "Genny," she mumbles.

Josh helps Caisy out of the card who rubs her big belly while Genny gets helped off her horse by Siddiq. "How are you doing?" He asks her.

"Take me to Rosita," she says with raised eyebrows.

He nods. "We'll check on your baby too," he smiles.

"Ours too, please," Josh smiles.

Later that same day the group returns. Daryl and michonne are pissed as Michonne holds her horse with a blindfolded girl on it. Aaron is heartbroken while Eugene sits on a horse Genny walks out of the big house with Junior next her.

Caisy and Josh look at her as they got up from the steps. Genny's eyes full with tears as she looks at Jesus's body and walks over to it.

She places her forehead on it and lets out a sob. "Gen..." Daryl whispers grabbing her shoulder.

She looks at him before letting him take away Jesus's body. Caisy hugs her mom who breaks down completely. Daryl eventually takes Genny inside and she sits on her old bed in complete silence.

"You okay?" He asks wiping her tears.

"No," she mumbles with a breaking voice.

He nods kissing her forehead. "I'm here," he whispers.

"Yeah? For how long?" She asks getting up.

"Gen..." he starts grabbing her hand.

She rips it out of his reach as tears start falling. "How long before you 'think' you've found another imaginary lead? He's gone! Everybody's gone! Dale! Andrea! Hershel! Beth! Glenn! Abraham! Sasha! Carl! Rick! And now Jesus! Everybody dies and you keep running away! I'm pregnant! I'm scared! And I..." she stops grabbing her belly as her face gets a painful shock on it.

"What's wrong?" Daryl asks shooting up.

She sits on the bed with a sigh. "She kicked a little to hard," she says softly while rubbing her belly that is noticeable under her shirt.

He sits back down putting his hand on her belly. Her hand goes over his and he looks at their hands. "I ain't leaving, love. No more runnin," he says softly wiping away her tears.

She nods looking down. "I miss you," she whispers.

"I miss you too," he whispers back.

The night is quiet and she lays alone in bed with Junior. Daryl chose to sleep outside because Junior was scared in his new bedroom.

Genny can't sleep so she decides to get up and goes on a walk. "I'm pretty sure that you are supposed to be sleeping," Daryl says as she walks towards the graves.

"I can't sleep," she sighs looking at him.

He nods getting up and walks with her. "So, you think it's a girl?" He asks grabbing her hand and intertwining their fingers.

"I don't know. I actually don't care, as long as he or she is healthy," she smiles.

He nods smiling. "I hope its a girl," he says softly.

"Don't let Ju hear you. He's convinced it's a boy," she smiles at him.

He smiles nodding before his smile drops seeing the grave of Glenn. "You want to be alone?" He asks.

"No, i just want to sit in silence," she says softly as she sit down at the grass by the graves.

He nods before sitting down next her in complete silence.

The next day Hilltop burries Jesus while Genny stares at the coffin with tears in her eyes. Her curls are in a bun and her eyes have dark bags under them.

It's like her whole being has shifted in a few hours. Caisy is standing next Josh with tears rolling down her cheeks while she also stares at the coffin.

Daryl looks at his wife and walks over to her. "It's your turn," he whispers to her.

She nods before she wipes away her tears and walks to the coffin. She hits the nail in before walking off with Junior.

Genny walks out of the house and goes to Daryl who sits by a small window listening in on Henry and the girl. "Whatcha doing?" she asks with a frown.

"Nothin," he lies.

She puts her hand on her belly and shakes her head. "Lets try it again. Whatcha doin?" She asks with raised eyebrows.

He smiles getting up and kisses her softly. "I'm letting Henry talk to the girl to get information," he whispers.

She nods before walking to the wall. "Whatcha doin?" He frowns.

"I don't want to be alone. Caisy is with Josh and Ju has training with them," she smiles going to sit down but struggling because of her belly.

He helps her before sitting down next her. He listens while they also watch Caisy and Josh laughing and training Junior how to use his knife.

"They're perfect together," Daryl says eventually.

Genny smiles looking up at him. "Reminds me of two people," she says intertwining her fingers with his.

It's true that the relationship between Josh and Caisy reminded her of hers and Daryl's. The only difference was that Genny and Daryl took more time, mostly for Genny to get used to him and his touch.

"If I never had met you. I would never had gotten over what happened to me. I would never have accepted my daughter. And I'm pretty sure i would've jumped in front of a train," she says looking at his wedding ring.

He looks at her and kisses the side of her head. "I would've been in jail, again," he whispers with a soft smile.

She looks up at him and smiles putting her forehead against his. "I love you, Daryl," she whispers.

"I love you too, Genevive," he whispers back.
