Another Halloween

Happy Halloween and Bonfire night!!

It was that time of year again. The nights get darker earlier and earlier. Some days it's freezing cold, other days it's too warm for this time of year. And Tescos have got the Christmas decorations and gifts out on their shelves already.

Halloween was a weird celebration in the Doctor's mind. Especially when it had started off as just remembering the dead, saints and all. He didn't quite understand how that had progressed to things such as stuff being full of scare factor, or pumpkin carving, trick or treating and apple bobbing? How was apple bobbing even remotely scary?

Still. Being human meant he technically came under said category of participating. For once in his long life, he didn't understand why. Why did humans do all of this, what was the reason?

When he had decided to ask Rose, all she'd said was 'I don't know, it's fun?' Then she had kissed him, making him forget about anything to do with Halloween.

It was half term for Tony, so he had begged for his big sister and her boyfriend to come over and carve pumpkins with him.

When the Doctor had heard the news, he scrunched his face up - not so much at spending time with Rose and Tony, but he just didn't get why - but quickly cleaned his face free of that look when Rose looked a little hurt.

"I know this whole human thing is still new to you, and you don't get it but... it's part of the experience yeah?" Rose looked a little uncertain, he couldn't have that. True, this human life was hard to adjust to, but he wouldn't have it any other way. Him with Rose? Absolutely perfect. Sometimes she still worried he would change his mind about being with her, but the Doctor didn't see that ever coming.

So, he reassured her the same way he always had and always would. Softly, he took her face into his hand and gently smoothed his thumbs over her cheeks. "It's part of the experience, and I couldn't be happier sharing it with you."
Bending down, he kissed her lips firmly but filled with all the love he could show her.

When they pulled away, Rose nodded, smiling up at him. The Doctor smiled back and they left to go to her parents house.

"Your mum sure does like to go all out." The Doctor commented as they walked up the steps to the front door.

The house was practically covered in cobwebs and there were fake tombstones leading up the drive. There was also a decorative display of pumpkins to the side of the steps and some lanterns with fake spiders on them.

Inside was the same as the outside. Cobwebs all over the ceiling and staircases, as well as ghost and skeletons scattered around the house.

Rose shrugged, "Mum did the best she could when I was younger, she just has the money to go full out now. I think it's cool."

Of course Rose Tyler thought it to be cool. She had loved the prospect of different planets and aliens, so really he should've expected this. And she was still a child a heart.

Outside, Tony, Jackie and Pete (surprisingly) had already made a start on carving their pumpkins. To the side of them, there were two untouched pumpkins and despite the Doctor's understanding of these human traditions, it warmed his heart that they had got one for him. It made him feel included and part of their family.

"Rose!" Cried Tony, causing Rose to let go of his hand and rush over to him. "Look at my pumpkin!"

As Rose went over to look at Tony's pumpkin, the Doctor grabbed his and Rose's and began the timely process of removing all the seeds.
