Chapter Twenty-One~ I can't
trust them⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
The news Of Marshall Lannisters death was presented to King Aegon on first light. He had Melanie and Marco brought to him. Questioning the pair after Rhaella came to him reporting their affair.
"You threatened your brothers life did you not?" The king questioned from the throne.
Rhaella and Aemond stood at the base of the throne, Melanie and Marshall on their knees before the king.
"My king, My brother was my closest friend." Marco pleaded.
"And you." Aegon said pointing his sword to the Lannister girl. "Do you fuck them both?"
The court laughed at their new king. Two days of the throne, and he was already holding a trial. It was an omen for Rhaella's visions, a dark, dark cloud was sat above kings landing with Aegon as the ruler.
Melanie started to cry, "No my King." She lied. Rhaella thought her pathetic. She'd been fucking her brothers and now one of them was dead she was denying him the truth.
"You call my sister a liar?!" Aegon shouted.
"No!" Melanie sobbed, lowering her head down to the ground.
"Lord Jason Lannister, You're the oldest member of your house, what do you make of the accusations against your kin?" Aegon questioned turning his head to the older Lannister twin.
"My king, If the accusations against these two are true, then I can assure you I will deal with them accordingly." Jason replied, not even bothering to look at his younger siblings.
Aegon laughed. "Tell me how you would deal with your brother, he's on trial here for murder, I do not care if he fucks his sister or if your dead brother fucks her too." Rhaella could not tell whether or not the court was trying to keep their king in good spirits, because the situation here was a serious one and they were just laughing at the kings jokes.
"My Lord if it is your belief that my brother killed Marshall, then I leave him to your mercy." Lannister replied.
"He's your brother." Aegon replied.
"I have plenty more." Jason laughed.
"Hm, Gods know there's enough of you." Aegon sighed. He did not know wether to follow the judgement of his Mother, and have Marshall arrested for murder, or follow the advice of his lord grandsire and let the lannister go to assure the loyalty of the Lannister house. He turned his eyes to Aemond and Rhaella, And then too his Mother.
"My Mother, Dowager Queen has a punishment in mind for the two of you." He said bored of this situation.Alicent stepped forwards, Her dress was even greener than it normally was, Rhaella rolled her eyes at her Lady Mother.
"Marshall, You will spend the next two years here in solitary confinement then you will give a life's service to the wall." A course of gasps could be heard through out the hall. "Lady Melanie, you will take leave of the castle and commit your life to the faith
of the seven, by becoming a septa."Melanie cried, begged for her eldest brother to step in and stop this. But he did not.
"Agreed! Now let us take our leave." Aegon Sighed, standing from his new throne.
Rhaella and Aemond followed him out.
~
"Rhaella, did you have to make such a bloody mess?" Aegon said, smirking at one of the servants they passed. "I almost brought up my breakfast at the sight of it."
Rhaella scoffed. "Seven help you in battle then brother."
"Aemond, I've a task for you." Aegon started. "In fact, both of you."
"And why us?" Rhaella retorted. "Send one of your council members."
Aegon shook his head. "I can't trust them."
You can't trust us.
Rhaella thought. Aegon still talking. "And by sending you, I'm likely to win the support of baratheon!""You want me to go to his home?" Rhaella scoffed.
Aemond didn't like the plan either. "She killed his daughter."
Aegon shrugged. "Only one of them! He's still got four!" He replied. "Plus he's no proof it was you."
"What are we doing there?" Aemond questioned closing the door behind them when they entered Aegons meeting room.
It was Rhaella who answered. "He wants us to ensure Baratheon's support, what does mother think of this?"
Aegon slammed his hands down onto the table. "I don't answer to her!" He snapped, pouring himself a glass of wine. "She does things too safe, she'd have me send a letter, what good would a fucking letter be when I'm preparing for war?!"
Rhaella turned to him at the mention of war. "War? I thought the plan was to seek peace from Rhaynera."
Aegon shook his head. "She would never agree to it, she thinks the throne is hers."
Rhaella debated her next choice of words. Technically the throne was Rhaynera's, she was proclaimed heir in front of hundreds, and in a matter of hours Alicent had managed to change the entire line of succession based on something only she had heard.
"Is it a lot of bother being the king Aegon?" She said, pulling on a sincere face. "Surely you'd rather be off hunting and fucking, instead of having to sit your arse on the throne all day long it looks terribly uncomfortable."Aegon thought about what she said, maybe he didn't want the crown. No. He did want it. He wanted to be adored as his father had been, Loved by his people. He had never experienced it before. "No, I am the first born son." He said. "It's my crown."
Rhaella shrugged. "Of course it is, but what's ours is also ours to give away, If you do give it to Rhaynera she will only be ruler because you allowed it."
Aegon thought again. Perhaps Rhaella was right. He'd never been one for duty. All he spent his time doing was Eating, drinking, fighting, fucking, gambling and stealing. The crown was a heavy thing to wear, and he preferred to travel light.
Maybe it wasn't meant for him after all.
Rhaella could see the gears grinding away in his brain, she thought she had him just where she wanted.
Till her mother burst through the door.
"Ser Erryk has become traitor to you Aegon." Alicent confessed. "I've just received word he aided the Princess Rhaenys in escaping kings landing, I've sent guards to arrest him but there are rumors of him fleeing the city.""And what of his brother?" Aegon retorted downing the rest of his wine.
"Ser Arryk was the man who came forward with the news." Alicent replied.
"Is there nobody I can trust in this fucking place?!" He snapped. "Aemond, Rhaella." Aegon turned his attention back to the other two. "You will leave on the morrow."
